Hi, I have this strange effect with my MP780 that all it does is show the faint black bar at the bottom of the display. I've read that I should remove the print head first and see if that changes anything. The problem is that since the printer doesn't turn on properly, the print head doesn't move to the center. Any idea how I can move it to the center manually without ruining the printer even more? It doesn't seem to be easily moved from it's "parking" position on the very right. Thanks in advance for any pointers, Stephan
Hi, thanks for the hint, but I've searched high and low on the Canon web site, I couldn't find a matching FAQ or help entry. If you know where the solution is hidden on their web site, would you be so kind and post a direct link to it?

No that will be the screen itself. If the inverter is bad you will see a very faint picture.
Hook the laptop to an external monitor, if the picture is fine it is definitely the screen itself. If it still experiencing display problems then it will be the motherboard.
I got such problem on my MP 780 (grayed boxes on bottom LCD line, no function). It turned out to be missing 1.5V for CPU core. On revese (solder) side of mainboard i found point described as "1.5V". I've powered this from external supply (took about 2 amperes) for few seconds and MP is alive again (without external supply).
In fact, I ran a couple more ordinary cleaning sequences with a new cartridge in place, and it prints normally now. The only anomaly is that the ink-level panel still shows the 3eBK as being half-full (which is the level it showed when I discarded the previous cartridge).
It sounds a lot like a bad color wheel if it was a DLP. IF it is a LCD then i would say one of the LCD panels is bad or possibly a connection problem that drives the panel or the connection that hooks up to the projector is suspect. Let me know if that helped you at all.It is strange that the bottom shows white though. Jay
Hi I have a problem with my bottom screen as well. I was replacing the case as the hinge was broken. When i was putting it back together i noticed a slight tear in the ribbon cable which is attached to the board and the bottom screen. When I turned it on I found I had poor colour and contrast in the bottom screen however the top screen was fine. Where this ribbon cable is attached to the board there is two small cables attached to the board beneath it, maybe one of these has come away and needs repositioning or your bottom screen needs replacing.Try this site for diy tipshttp://site.powergamingparts.com Cheers Chris
Same problem - for a few days the LCD screen showed garbage intermittently , then machine wouldn't power up and out of warranty. Good machine til then.
For Models: CC4352, CC4362, CC4393.
Your camcorder has a wide format recording mode that lets you make recordings compatible with the 16x9 format. When 16x9 is activated, the camcorder records black bars at the top and bottom of the picture to produce the wide-screen (movie) effect. This is also known as "letterbox" recording.
Do not use this mode unless you have a compatible 16x9 TV. When played on a regular TV, black bars appear on the screen.
If the 16x9 feature is activated on your camcorder and you want to turn it off, press REC/PAUSE to pause recording, and repeatedly press DIGITAL EFFECTS until no digital effects display appears.
