SOURCE: rear lights aren't working in my 1996 saturn SL1.Not bulb problem

Check fuses next, best done with a meter or a test light. You have a panel to the right of the center console in the front where the passengers left foot is, There is also one under the hood by the left headlight area. Remember that fuses for lights are only powered with the light switch on.

I'm having issues with my saturn SL1 brake lights. The third light works, as well the tail lights. I pulled the left side bulb and discovered this goody substance on the inside. Tried a new bulb and...

The substance is to keep the connection from corrosion. It will not keep the lights from working. I could be a fuse. It will be labeled brake.

I hope this helps you! If so please check YES!!! Thanks!

Have you recently replaced any bulbs? Did you use dual element bulbs. It sounds like the wrong bulbs were used and the brakes lights are backfeeding the tail light circuit.

1993 saturn sl engine dies

I just had this problem with my 97 sc1. I found that the driver's rear tail lights were staying on dim when ever the car was running. In my situation, the cluster of wires that ties to the rear tail light is also the wires that tie to the fuel pump. Every time you hit the brake, it shorted out and cut the power to the fuel pump. Test for this problem by pulling one of your tail light bulbs, if the car shuts off or wont start without it, this could be your problem.
