I recently purchased this Philips SA52XX MP3 player with the hopes that I could watch movies while out & about. I have DVDs that will allow for download but after attempting to convert the DVD files to an acceptable format with the accompanying software; Media Converter 2.5, I continue to get the error message stating that I do not have the correct MPEG codec and that I should go to wikpedia.com to download this codec. I have downloaded multiple codecs to include DivX, Mpeg streamclip, Final Codecs 2008, etc.....Nothing seems to work. I really need assisatnce or I see no other recourse but to return this product.

Hey, i got on here and had all the same problems....i finally got it to work.... i think that the video converter software that they give you is bad...hahahaa...after a couple of days of messing with it....i got it to work in windows media player....its on one of my older computers....and it let me convert the video...it takes a long time but it works.....as of right now im putting 3 skate videos on it right now...get on it...
Hi people. I had the same problems.
Uninstall Media Converter and any codec packs you have.
Install K-Lite Codec Pack 5.0.0 (Full)
Reinstall Media Converter
The converter plays havoc with Windows Explorer 8 so you need to uninstall it (control-panel-uninstall programs-updates) then reinstall it when you have installed the codecs and the converter.
Hope this helps
:-)
The phillips SA52XX is a harder machine to work.Unless you go on rhapsody, which I think is mostly unfair that you have to keep paying to make the thing download, you have to have a video converter, which for most people are very hard to use.Personally my solution is to use limewire.I go onto limewire set it so it shares what I download,or share it manually and pull up a windows media player at the same time. For music files every type works.Video files are tricky. What I have found is you have to look up the name of the video and then type Mpg or Mpeg. Then, hopefully,it will spit out atleast one or two relatively good videos under the file format of Mpg or Mpeg.Otherwise I have not found anyother way to convert and download.
Eztoo Video Converter supports almost all video formats as source files and outputs many different video and audio formats beyond HD (high definition), including MPEG, AVI, WMV, MKV, RM, MP4, ASF, iPhone, iPod, MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, RA, AAC, AC3, etc. You can download this software free from here: http://www.eztoosoft.com/video-converter... For mac users: http://www.eztoosoft.com/mac-eztoo-video... Hope it helps. Contact me if you have any other question.
Hey there philips user i may have a solution that will work for you instead of trying to get the MPEG-4 codec to work try using a WMV files it has always worked for me when i do this
If you download AVS4You software navigator and download avs video converter 6 from the list, you can convert your dvd to a format that will download onto your phillips sa52 player. If it is the trial version it will have a logo keep popping up to spoil the result on your player...you need to pay about £25 for the full version for a year or about £35 for unlimited useage. You can only use the licence on one computer. If it breaks down or you lose everything you can still download again onto that computer...BUT...if you change your computer you need to buy another licence...otherwise it works great.!! hope this helps...JIM

- Alo AVI MPEG WMV 3GP MP$ Converter is the one I have settled for. It cost me £18 and I have put it onto two computers for no extra cost. They will send you a CD if you request one.
I just open the file where it says 'add files' at hte top left hand corner of the application when you open it. Next..you click CONVERT at the bottom. it takes about two or three minutes.
after closing the application down, you open your phillips converter which you should have installed when you bought the iipod. you then add the files you have just converted (you should have made a note of the output folder so you know where to find them) Next ..you just click 'start' the phillips converter now prepares and transfers the files onto your ipod which you should have connected to you computer. When you remove the USB from your ipod it will update your ipod and you will find 'your video under 'Videos' I use windows media player for music and pictures. make sure you deselect automatic sync first..find your files, right click and add to sync list and then click syncroniise. It took me ages to figure it all out but it works great now.best of luck...JIM

My brother's life has its own soundtrack. He has a Walkman E Series MP3 Player and I'm looking for the absolute best headphones for him. He likes to play his music at full volume most of the time, and he wonders why he goes through headphones so fast. I am looking for these headphones to be very durable, and they cannot be in-ear headphones or DJ headphones.

I have today purchased the Phillips GoGear however i am very frustrated at the fact that i can not get any music video's on it. I have the media converter 2.5 for phillips, i go to add file or dvd click start and i get a message saying a do not have to updated codec. i have downladed many types of codec's tried but still it will not allow me to do what it is designed to do. Please let me know what to do in order to get it working.

same problem... i can't convert videos with media converter
I have kinda the same problem. when I try to convert a .WMV file, the converter shuts down. when I try a .MP4 file the convertion stops after a few seconds and I get a message saying that I don't have the MP4 codec installed on my computer.
because I thought it might be something on the computer that's causing this problem, so I installed the software on an other computer. on that one it never shuts down, but I can't save the converted files. :S
I'm now using a different converter program, but I can't play the videos on my SA52xx. I was wondering what the settings are if you want to convert files onto the GoGear.
