Question about Panasonic PT-47WX49 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Re:hello again The red crosses refuse to move left or right, both. They move up and down just fine. Is there an easy test I can perform to see if it is in fact the resistor? How difficult is the resistor relacement as compared to the IC replacement? Will I need to solder etc...?

Resistor replacement is very easy compared to IC replacement. You have to unsolder one side of the resitor and lift that side out of circuit in order to test it properly and if it doesnt measure its open and will need to be replaced or if it reads more thatn 5% of the rated resistance it will also have to be removed as the resistors are all 5% tolerance or less in convergence circuits

How do you access the convergence calibration menu on a RCA P52926 Rear Projection TV

Hello
To access the convergence calibration:

Press the MENU button on the remote.

2. Press 3 to select the Screen option.

3. Press 4 to select the Adjust Projection TV option.

4. Press 4 to select the Advanced Convergence option (the
Advanced Convergence screen appears).

The green pattern is fixed. The red and blue patterns are adjusted to

the green pattern. The Red Convergence appears first by default.

5. Colored cross-hairs show the current adjustment position on the

grid. To move the cross-hairs to a different position, use the

CH+/- buttons on the remote to move the cross-hair highlight up

and down, and the VOL+/- buttons to move it right and left.

6. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the red pattern. Each press of

the arrow button makes a slight adjustment from the center of

the cross-hairs - you can press and hold the desired arrow

button to make a faster adjustment, and then make fine

adjustments with single presses of the arrow button.

7. Press the INFO button to switch to Blue convergence and follow

the steps above to adjust the blue pattern.

8. Press OK to exit. You will be asked if you want to save the
adjustments

Yes Saves adjustments.

No Returns to the Advanced Convergence screen allowing

further adjustments.
Clear Exits screen without making any changes

Note: Before you use the advanced convergence feature, you must
complete the previous steps to align the tubes

Your TV most likely a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

65 jvc iart model 65wp74 ,have a convergence problem, how do i get front panel off and where is circuit board located. Thanks

you need original jvc remote for this to work. Do not open anything until you. Go to menu on your remote find convergence and press the volume button to the right go to manual and press right again. you should see a bunch of rectangles, now you should also see a set of red cross heirs press the #2 to move cross heirs up and eight to move down numbers 4 and 6 will move left and right and 5 will place the cross heirs back to the center once you have chosen the selected section to adjust line up the magenta with the other colors using the channel and volume buttons these move the lines up down left to right adjust all lines until they are white. i do not know how to switch from magenta to green or blue but this should get you started on the right track with out having to replace anything. good luck! if you figure out how to switch from maqgent to green or blue please post it so that I may adjust mine as well tahnks

Picture look double and the colors red come out the bottom of the screen on the lower left symptom is for busted convergence IC,you must replaced this IC in order that will works better again.STK 392-xxx ICs and it's associated resistor,this resistor automatically change value,can caused truoble even though you change the ICs.If you bring this to a service center they cost you $600 to $700,but if you buy the repair kit you can save more,don't wory it is very easy because there is intallation guide including in the repair kit. Feel free to ask whatever the result... click the link for sample picture guide step by step installation;

Blue is good but I couldn't adjust the red and the letters have laggig red behind them and the picture hvae red eyes and also red shadows

Right now I am troubleshooting the same problem. If you go into your picture menu on your tv go to manual red convergence and hit right. It should give you 3 sets of cross hairs and your red will be able to move up and down and from left to right. If yours is anything like mine your red will not move from left to right but will have no problem going up and down. If this is the case, chances are that there is a resistor blown on the board attached to your tube that controls the red (far left looking from the back). If you don't feel good about checking resistors and diodes on that board DO NOT start taking things apart. repair costs will only get bigger the more you take apart.

yes you will need to solder in the resistors. How you check them is by unsoldering one side of the resistor and lifting it out of circuit and checking it for resistance. Ifd its open you will get no reading. If it reads less or more than 5 % of its rating it will need to be changed as well as it can weaken the Ics and they can end up failing if a weak resistor is left in circuit.

Its possible one of the resistors were weak from the other ICs. Which way does the red refuse to move as that can help you pin point which resistor you should check

Convergance problem

Your convergence IC's are bad and maybe a few of the supply resistors. Not an expensive repair but definantly something you would want a technician to do for you. Hope this helps.
