    Hi Michelle_7

Can I ask, at what point of the boot up process dcoes the computer ask for this disk, and did you buy your PC new from a retailer, I ask thyis because if you did you normally get with them some disks. One might be the one you need but possibly could have Windows wrfitten on the disk given to you as a copy of the operating software. Maybe named after the maker of your PC. No matter what, don't panic, if the memory you are missing has precious content, there are ways of recovering it quite easily yourself these days with the right software.

System recovery can be accessed during initial boot up before the Windows screen comes up. In most cases you need to press F11 to begin system recovery. There should be a message that flashes across the top of the screen shortly after you turn on the computer that instructs you to press F11 for emergency recovery. Do it. If you do not see a message, try pressing the F11 key several times right after you start your computer, sometimes the message to enter recovery does not appear because the manufacturer places there logo page on the initial screen.

Top Four Efficient Windows 7 Password Recovery Methods

Have you ever lost your Windows password? If you have, you must know the feeling. That means you could not use your computer and your work cannot move on. So, are there some ways to retrieve your lost Windows password? Yes, here we will show you several methods for Windows 7 password recovery, and then you do not have to ask for help everywhere.

On this article we will share with you four efficient methods to recover windows 7 password, which are arrayed from easy to difficult.

Method 1: Use an available administrator account

Need: An available administrator account

If you have an available administrator account on your system, you can get your password back easily. Logon Win 7 system with the admin account, and then you can come to the Control Panel and change or delete other accounts' passwords. Just three steps:

Step 1: Click Start -> Control Panel -> Add or remove user accounts

Step 2: Choose the locked administrator account

Step 3: Click Change the password or Remove the password. And then you can change or remove the lost or forgotten password

Method 2: Use Windows password reset disk

Need: a Windows password reset disk (USB key)

Windows 7 allows us to create a Windows password reset disk (USB key) in case that we lost the Win 7 logon password. When we lose the password of Win 7, we can reset a new one with the created disk. The weak point is that you can only create the disk before losing your Windows 7 password. If you do not create that, it could not help. You could follow these five easy steps:

Step 1: When you enter a wrong password on the logon screen, a hint will appear: The user name or password is incorrect. Click OK and you are back to the logon screen. Insert the created Windows password reset disk (USB key) to your Win 7 PC and click Reset password...

Step 2: Click Next

Step 3: Choose your disk and click Next

Step 4: Type a new password and click Next

Step 5: Click Finish and your lost password should be reset

Method 3: Use third party Windows 7 password recovery software

Need:
1. A blank CD/DVD or an USB flash drive
2. A computer that has a CD/DVD writer
3. Windows 7 password recovery software

There is plenty of third party software for password recovery on Windows 7 online. Most of them are designed to create a Windows password recovery disk. With the disk you can recover your lost Windows 7 password. We highly recommend Windows Login Recovery and use it as an example. What you need to do is just three steps:

Step 1: Download Windows Login Recovery

Step 2: Burn a Windows password recovery disk with the software

Step 3: Recover the Windows 7 password with the disk

Method 4: Use Windows 7 installation disc

Need: Windows 7 installation disc

Installation disc of Windows 7 can not only install the system for you, but also restore the system. If you have created a system backup image before you created the Windows 7 password, the installation disc could help you to restore your system to the early status (the status that has no a logon password). Then you could access your computer without password. You can follow these five steps:

Step 1: Insert the installation disc to the locked Win 7 PC

Step 2: Restart your computer from the installation disc

If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check the information that came with your computer. You might need to change your computer's BIOS settings.

Step 3: Choose your language settings, and then click Next

Step 4: Click Repair your computer

Step 5: Select a recovery option, and then click Next

It is terrible when we lose the Windows password, but you do not need to worry about that from now on. Above four Windows 7 password recovery methods could help you to recover Windows 7 password and regain access the computer.

I have a Dell desktop that runs Windows Vista. When I try to get on the computer, it seems to load but when it gets to the black screen with the scrolling/ moving bar at the bottom. It doesn't leave...

first, recover your files. You will need to use something like this data recovery program.
http://www.asoftech.com/adr/

I've had to use it many times in the past but in this case you need to plug that drive into another system as an external drive or slave drive and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the files.

After you get back your files, you can then format the drive and reinstall your system.

I have a Toshiba Notebook L300 series. My Window Vista will not load fully. it states I need a file C:/windows\system32\systempropertiesprotection.exe. I have looked on line but found nothing.

Hi the file is missing if you have a recovery disk or the operating system CD you need to use it to repair your computer. Please follow these steps:use recovery disk for the computer if you have one. If you don't do not have a recovery disk for the computer you can use the operating system disk to repair it, please follow these steps: insert the operating system disk into the CD/DVD drive, restart the computer, press F12 and choose boot from CD save and exit. As the computer loading it will ask you to press any key to boot from CD, press any key, a blue screen will appear while its loading, when it get to the first set of options you will press enter to continue. when it get to the second set of options it will ask you to install the operating system or repair it, choose repair and follow the steps from there, once you choose repair, then computer will go through different stages. The next step is to enter the keys for the operating system the the computer will continue until it finish the repairs and this should solve the problem of missing files. But you should backup your files before doing this even though no file will be lost but its better to backup just in case something goes wrong. Backing up the file is always an important part of having a computer, you should also create a recovery CD and this can be done during the process of backing up your computer files. The back up files should be store on one or more DVDs and this along with the recovery CD should be store in a safe place and dry place. The purpose of the recovery CD is to repair damage or missing files from the computer and each computer require its own back up and recovery disk to repair the problem.

I dont have recovery CD for my laptop

Being that you don't have the recovery cd, I would probably do the following (in this order):

1. Do a System Recovery (go to Start > Help and Support > type in System Recovery in the search field > look for Run System Recovery Wizard)

2. If the above didn't fix my problem, then I would try to determine if it was a hardware issue (bad RAM, fan, processor, etc) or if it was definitely a software issue (operating system is kaput, virus, etc...)

3. Contact Toshiba and find out how much it would cost to get another Recovery CD.

4. If it costed more than $100 dollars (and you're a little computer inclined) then I would buy myself a fresh Windows XP Home Edition OEM version (runs about $90 if not less)

BUT... before sticking in that cd, make sure that you download the device drivers or back up your device drivers for your system (network driver, graphics drivers, chipset drivers).. once you've backed up those things onto a cd or disk, then I would go ahead and put in a fresh copy of Windows XP and reformat the computer.

Once thats done, you can put in that back cd you made and have the computer find the drivers on your disc when it says "New Hardware Found..." and just make sure you have it search your disc drive.

IF it doesn't cost much to get a Recover CD from Toshiba, then by all means, get it and put that bad boy in. Of course, when formatting anything, back up your files that you need (address book, documents, etc) and then reformat with the CD.

I need a restore disk for gateway computer

From Gateway website:

Q: What if my Gateway System Recovery CD/DVD is lost, missing or damaged? A:
  • For computers shipped after November 1, 2004 and until January 2005, a patch needs to be installed. Download the patch through our FTP site at ftp://esupport:vImvF88@ftp.gateway.com/pub/hardware_support/drivers/apps/medialess/Create_DRV_APPS_CD_Update.exe. After the installation of this patch, the option to create the drivers and applications CD is available from the Start menu under Programs. However the operating system (OS) CD\DVD must be requested by e-mailing customer service.
Note: Replacement of the operating system CD may be at a cost according to your warranty status.

  • For computers shipped between January 2005 and June 2005, the option to Create my Drivers-Applications CD(s) is already available under Programs. The operating system CD\DVD must be requested by e-mailing customer service, and may be at a cost according to your warranty status.
  • For computers shipped after June 2005, an operating system CD\DVD is included and the option to Create my Drivers-Applications CD(s) is in System Recovery. Access the program from the Start menu under Programs. This backup process through System Recovery allows you to create the applications and drivers CD\DVD as many times as needed. If the operating system CD\DVD is lost, missing, or damaged, e-mail customer service to inquire about a replacement. Please note that replacement may be at a cost according to your warranty status. If all CD\DVD's are needed, e-mail customer service to inquire about a replacement. Please note that replacement may be at a cost according to your warranty status.
Send them an email with model number from tag at the back of the computer and ask for recovery CD.
