Samsung monitor cycles through magic bright phases non stop

My screen went blank and then started going in different colors.

I would go to a service location and tell them your screen died. They'll most likely give you a new one.

Have you tried doing a factory reset on the monitor? If the problem persists, then it could be an electronics fault or a stuck button.

In your monitor panel you'll find 4 buttons. Press the menu button and get into Magic Bright. There you can choose the one that best suits you. You can even set to Dynamic contract where the monitor adjusts the brightness according to the elements on the screen

Samsung SyncMaster 931BF 19" Monitor. Screen was working fine. But now after raising the resolution past 1280X1024, the screen wouldn't display anything. I tried it on my older monitor, a CRT. It...

This is because your screen is not compatible with any resoultion past 1280 x 1024. Look at your screen's specifications here: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200602/20060210090838125_BN59-00521A-01Eng.pdf (Page 76 listed as Maximum resolution)

If you want to go past that, you must purchase and/or use a different monitor. Just be sure to look at the Maximum Resolutions BEFORE you purchase a new monitor!

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 204B 21 inch lcd monitor that is having an increasingly darker screen. I have adjusted the brightness all the way up to no fix. When I turn the computer on, it takes nearly a...

I have a SyncMaster as well, and it has been fine for 5 years. What you are describing sound like the backlight is getting dimmer, which is either a power supply or control board, neither of which are easy to replace. With good monitors getting below $150, I would have a hard time spending too much money to get an old monitor fixed.

On the side of the monitor are 6 little buttons. What is the function of each of these buttons.

I found a user guide for a CMV938A that I expect the buttons to be the same.

Here is a link to the manual: CMV938A User Guide

The buttons are described on page 6 of the manual.

1.
Power On/Off button and indicator LED.
Green: Normal.
Orange: Power Saving.
Off: Power Off.

2.
Enter and exit the OSD menu.

3. O/>
•* Quick brightness adjustment and increase contrast/brightness.
•* Move selection right when OSD is displayed.

4. O/<
•* Quick contrast adjustment and decrease contrast/brightness.
•* Move selection left when OSD is displayed.

5 Auto/▼
• *Automatically optimize positions, phase, and clock when OSD is not displayed.
• *Move selection down when OSD is displayed.

6 Turbo/▲ •
*Switch between picture, text and economy modes.
• *Move selection up when OSD is displayed.

Brightness contrast screen appears

is this from your computer or monitor? if from your monitor settings, you are hitting the monitor menu button with your keyboard as you type. If from the computers' display settings, change the desktop resolution once or twice , hit apply and ok. this should break the opening cycle.
Regards.
