HP Photosmart 8250 Support Menu?

Hi. I have repaired a HP Photosmart 8250 which had the 'ink system failure' error. This printer had indeed failed - a gear had come off of the ink pump driveline. I have repaired the gear, but the printer does not attempt to initialize the pump. The error continues to display. I understand that most HP printers have a 'support menu' where you can reset the trouble codes. I think that this is what I need, however, I do not know the button combination to open the 'support menu'. Does anyone have this information?

Thanks!

Goto http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw... and select your operating system. Then, click on, download, and use the link that says "recomend an update for long power-on cycle and ink system failures".

Be sure you have repaired the cause of the ink system failure first....In my printer, it was a gear that had worked itself off of the shaft.

I acquired 1 of these printers yesterday (8/7/08) it was a freebie off a freecycle site, I switched it on & it had 'performing maintenance' on the LCD screen (is this normal?) then after that the LCD kindly told me the inks had expired or were about to, I tried to print something but nothing happened, (this don't happen with the epson I was thinking of replacing) it tried, & got a message on computer saying it was printing but obviously it wernt. I don't really want to buy inks (bit expensive) in case its something else.

I have the same issue with the printer but I do have a solution for you.
I do know how to reset the error codes.

Start by turning off the printer and unplugging the power cord.
Next, you need to hold the Instant Share and Photo Tray buttons simultaneously while plugging in the power cord. If done correctly you will see the LCD Screen turn green with the numbers '1 2 3 4 5'.
After that is done, you need to unplug the printer, and replug it.

I myself have not been able to resolve the issue as to why it is giving me the error code. Any help would be appreciated.

Same problem here, what do you choose after opening the support menu? I tried Factory Default Reset but made no difference.

Further to the question I've just asked, I have just realised that this site from the U.S., I don't suppose it matters but I'm in the U.K.

Thanks in advance

I am also struggling with the Ink System Failure error message, and currently trying to remedy the problem. This is for dfive10 or anyone else who might benefit...to open the support menu, simultaneously press the cancel button and the arrow button to the right of "select photos" for 5 seconds.

Ink system fail Oxc18a001

Hello,

The "ink system failure" error is caused by air in the ink feed tubes. This happens if you either totally run out of ink and the pump sucks up air from the empty cartridge or you use poorly filled ink cartridges that have sir bubbles. To clear the error you will have to do a feed tube purge. We have a step by step guide to do this posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/category/printer-repair/hp-printer-repair/ The purge will take about 10 minutes to do and should get you back up and printing.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

HP 8250 Photosmart printer that displays "system ink failure"

Try changing the ink cartridges.

If you installed the "HP Support Toolkit" software from the CD-ROM that came with the printer, use this Toolkit to "run a cleaning cycle".
It can print a "test" page, to show you which colours _do_ work, and which do _not_ work.

If all else fails, then find a qualified printer technician.

Ink system failure. How do I reset a hp 8250 printer?

Turn off the machine using the power button, unplug the power cord from the back of the machine, remove the ink cartridges, wait 2 min, plug the power cord back in, press the power button to turn on the printer, wait for the printer to prompt that the ink cartridges are missing, then replace the ink cartridges. If this doesn't clear the error you may need to re-prime the ink cartridges. There is a good explanation of how to do this at http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/hp-photosmart-ink-system-failure-1/.
