You should upgrade computers, because a pentium 2 and 3 wont do ****.

The fastest Pentium 3 that will work in your board is a Intel Pentium III 1GHz chip. Here is a link to the specs:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-III/Intel-Pentium%20III%201000%20-%20RB80526PY001256%20%28BX80526F1000256%29.html

You could also get a Intel Celeron 1.1 GHz but it only has half the level 2 cache size so it's actually a bit slower than the Pentium III 1GHz chip.

My gateway G6-350 supports a second processor...how may i determine which processor to buy as second one...must it be the same one...thank you for your time

hi,
according to gateway 450mhz is the largest that can be put into your system. The biggest performance gain will be found in a RAM upgrade. The difference between a 350MHz & 450MHz CPU will be minimal & maybe not even noticeable. But if you already have another CPU or can pick one up for a few bucks, it wouldn't hurt...I wouldn't spend more than $5 though.
Your best bet would be to try to determine the make/model of the motherboard, then find out what the max CPU is it can handle. See if a local computer shop has any used parts or if you have a flea market in your area, you might wanna look there. good luck and appy computering!

I want upgrade

hello, i would install the cpu you wish to use, then see how it runs. and then do a bios update. this may work,if not the motherboard may not be compatible with the cpu upgrade, (propriatory equipment sometimes does not allow such upgrades) like hit or miss! i hope this info helps, and you get the dell to accept the faster cpu. good luck! glen

UpGrade

you could only upgrade the processor and RAM in this condition i.e.

you can only change your an upgraded p-III processor like 1.0 GHz, 1.1 GHz or 1.3GHz and
upgrade the RAM by changing to 256 in each slot.

that is all what u can do with ur pc

UPGRADING TO 2 GHZ

1. Check user documentation for supported CPUs for your system.
2. If 2.0GHz CPU is supported on your system, you don't need any additional software.
3. I would upgrade the BIOS firmware first. It might have an additional CPU support.
4. Read information from you old CPU. Exemple: 1.4GHz/256/400. 1.4GHz is a speed of your CPU. 256 is a 256k cache, and 400 is 400MHz BUS speed. In general you can boost speed to 2.0GHz or more and cache to 512k, just keep your BUS speed to 400
5. Post your system model or your motherboard model. That information would help in determining the maximum speed of the CPU for your system.

Good lick!

Upgrade from 600 MHz to 1 GhZ

According to this review, you can upgrade as far as a 2 GHz P4-M at least; http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,669029,00.asp Other than that, i have been unable to find the details of your motherboard - if you can post the make and model (should be printed on it somewhere) then I would hope to find a more complete list of compatible and incompatible processors. Gateway themselves no longer offer online info or support for this model, but the motherboard details should enable me to find out what you need to know. Waiting for your post :)
