Question about Olympus FE-170 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Location of downloaded pictures on computer

When I download pictures to my computer from the camera, before I have done any editing, etc., where are they stored? After I edit them, if I don't do a "save as" to My Pictures, but just "save", I still can't find them by doing a search for files of all types modified on such-and-such a date. Can't find them with the designations given them by the camera. I can, of course, retrieve them with the Olympus Master program, but I would really like to know where they are stored, with filename and extension of the database.
Looking forward to hearing from you

Hi, people -- I managed to find my answer and thought I would post it in case anyone else ever has the problem. The default location for the pictures is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\username_user
    \Application

    Data\OLYMPUS\OLYMPUS Master\store\... where the ... indicates the

particular file name for the last group of pictures (with Olympus it's a date code and the number of the shot).

I still don't know why the search for .jpg files wouldn't find them, because they are in fact .jpg files.

    happy sunday

Your images in Olympus Master by default are stored on your C drive in the following directory path: C:\Documents and Settings\folder with your user name\Application Data\Olympus\Olympus Master\Store\then folders with long strings of numbers will display. This is every time you have downloaded images to your computer. The first 8 digits of the file folder are the year, month and date that the images were downloaded.
If you do not see Application Data folder: Once in your user name folder, at the top of the window left click Tools then left click Folder Options. Left click the View tab. On this tab you will see where it says Files and Folders. Scroll down until you see something that says Hidden files and folders and more than likely it is selected to Do not show. Please click Show hidden files and then please click Ok. You should now see Application Data folder and be able to proceed as previously indicated.

My PC will recognize my Canon Rebel XT, but it will not download the pictures. What do I need to do to get my pictures downloaded?

First of all....use a usb card reader...rather than downloading directly from the camera. I believe you use a cf card in your canon. Using the reader simply insert the card into the reader.....and download it to whatever file (and location on your pc) name you want. then bring up the image in whatever photo editing software you use. I use photoshop....but you necessarily need that program. many people use photoshop le, etc. hope that helps.

Check for the location where those pictures are being downloaded. Your system/computer might be set at a default location to download all objects.

It would also work using windows explorer, go to your Camera's drive and click-drag or copy those pictures and paste it in your local drive.

Downloading photos

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa:

  • Switch off camera and remove memory card.
  • Insert memory card in computer (if you do not have a reader, buy a USB memory-card adapter: they are not expensive)
  • Open "Explore" and find the disc-drive which corresponds to the memory card (e.g F, G, H, ...etc).
  • Copy the ****.jpg files to your hard-disc. If you double click one, your photo-browsing program should open and display the picture.
  • If you don't have any photo-editing software, you can download free programs such as this one:

Lost cd for downloading to computer

If you are using Windows operating system on your computer, you should be able to download your pictures without using any additional software.

However, should you want some basic editing and album capabilities you can download Google Picasa (excellent!) or Adobe Photoshop Album - both are free to download and use.
