Question about Sony VAIO Digital Studio PCV-RX660 PC Desktop

Computer turns on, but does not boot to XP

Hi,

I recently had some issues with my Sony Vaio PCV-RX660 desktop. When I turn on my computer, no image appears on my monitor. When it was working normally, when I turned on the computer, the fan would run loudly and then quickly cool off and quiet down when XP loaded up. Now, all that happens is that the fan runs loud and stays that way until I hold down the power button to turn it off cold.

Does this indicate that my motherboard is dead?

Thanks!

Generally, fans are controlled by heat readings...something to check is the operating temperature that is shown in your BIOS when you boot up...(access your BIOS by tapping on the delete key, or F2 key while booting)..if it goes over 70C real quick then there is a CPU heat dissipation problem, which would cause the fan to run like this i think that it is more of an issue that your CPU died...has your machine taken any kind of hit or fall that might have loosened things?...or perhaps the heat sink compound between the heatsink and CPU failed.....
but it also could be a dead MB

This model simply requires the removal of the purple screw in the back side of the pc. Then, the side of the case would pull towards you.

I have a SONY PCV-RX660. I had the computer disconnected from all power sources for an extended period of time. Tried to start it up yesterday and the computer will not start....no problems with speakers...

Usually there is a switch on the back of the power supply that turns the supply on or off. Make sure it is turned on. Try using a different 3-prong cord between computer and outlet.

Use your installation CD for Windows that came with your computer, and boot to the CD. (Usually, pressing the F12 key will offer your boot options such as "Boot to CD.")

Once booted on to the CD, it will offer you several options - Do NOT reinstall Windows - you want to choose the Repair Option.

When the repair stuff has loaded (You may have to select which volume you wish to work on, if so just pick the number that is next to your C drive.) and you are at the prompt that looks like "C:>" you will want to type in the following, without the quotation marks.

"chkdsk c: /r"

It will take a while for it to work all its magic, but that should fix your problem!

When it is finished, you can simply push the power button on your computer to turn it off.
When you next turn it on, it should be happier.

Adam,

The sony VAIO Pcv-j200 only runs with Windows 2000, windows Me and windows xp. The current operating system Vista on your computer right now will work but some of the features of it may not. The link below shows all the drivers for your unit for diffent operating systems (not vista). What you can try to do is to download the audio driver for windows xp
