An AGP video card would provide a better video performance than a PCI video card.

Yes, it is compatible, just that you must first uninstall the previous video driver, then configure the BIOS to route the video signal to the PCI and not the AGP and only then install the new card. And in the end it will behave worse than the previous AGP card you got because the PCI interface is way slower than the AGP.
Just buy a good AGP card, PCI cards are made for office pc's in which the onboard one is totally obsolete.

"Graphics, is there an upper limit on how much you can upgrade a video card?"

Yes, and no gammon_ben.

Your computer uses an AGP graphics card.
Uses AGP 8X graphics cards. (1.5 volt)

Goes in the brown AGP slot on the motherboard above the three white PCI slots.

The best AGP graphics cards are the AGP 8X ones.

Sky's the limit, just depends on your pocketbook.

Yes, so far.

Primer:
When using Integrated Graphics, the graphics chipset on the motherboard borrows some of the System Resources.
The Processor and Ram Memory.

The Processor and Ram Memory are trying to take care of the Operating System, and the program being ran.
(Windows XP is one example of an O/S. Operating System)

Let's use an intensive graphics program for an example, a Game, and Windows XP.

The Processor and Ram Memory is supporting Windows.

They're also supporting the characters of the game, the shading of the game, and the background of the game, just to name a few characteristics.

Due to the resources needed from the system resources, (Processor and Ram Memory), from the game, the game will lag, or freeze up.

Using a graphics card frees up the system resources.
A graphics card has it's own Processor (GPU), and Ram Memory. (Graphics memory)
(GPU = Graphics Processing Unit)

However, the Processor still has to utilize the information from the graphics card. Even though it, and the Ram Memory have been freed up, there is a limit on how much information a Processor can handle at one time.

Your Processor may be an Intel Celeron, or Pentium 4.
These are single core processors, and have their limitations.

HOWEVER one more time, you are just speaking of operating a 40 inch widescreen (?) monitor with 1080p.
A really decent AGP graphics card can handle that with no sweat, and watching videos.
Some of the newer intensive games may be a problem.

Here is an example of a decent AGP 8X graphics card, that is Low Profile. (Low in height)

If it has an onboard video card then reload the video driver.

If it has a PCI-e / AGP video card then download latest drivers and re-install driver, Dont forget to un-install original driver first.

Failing all that see if you can edit the screen resolution in safe mode. (Press F8 when you first switch PC on.

No it does not have an agp port. IT has a PCI Express Port for video cards. Its much better and faster.

If the type of card is the same, and will fit into the slot, such as AGP or PCI or PCIe, then it wil work after you install the new video card drier for your operating system of windows.

MSI motherboard model 6734 AGP interface

Looks like your motherboard is a MSI KM4AM-L detailed here:

http://www.msicomputer.co.uk/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=572&maincat_no=1

If so, then it has an AGP slot which will run at 4x and 8x.

Remember to check the BIOS settings after you install it to make sure it is set to 8x, if that is what your card will take.

Installing NVidia 8500GT XFX 256MB graphics to A8N-VM Motherboard

The chances are that you have an old motherboard which is not compatable with the new graphic card. Or you may be running windows 98 and are downloading the driver for xp or visa versa. The probable solution, will be to sell the new card on ebay and buy the best old card you can off ebay. Or just make do with the card you already had in your computer. If you are determined to have a better graphics card. A motherboard upgrade with better graphic card may be the best answer or buy a better spec pc second hand if you don't have much money. You'll probably waiste a lot of time trying to get the new card to work and it probably never will.
