Question about Pentax Cameras

2 Answers

I have a Pentax Optio M10. My photos have stripes across them. I could have inadvertantly pressed a button that has caused this to happen, but there is no troubleshooting section in the operating manual.

Thankyou for your prompt reply. The lines are horizontal and the exposure seems to be affected too.

  • jay-nine Jun 07, 2008

I'm having trouble attaching an image. I think because they are larger than 150kb. Don't know how to make them smaller. The stripes are pretty bad, narrow and horizontal, and the exposure seems to be affected too. If there is a way of reducing the picture to 150kb and you could let me know I'll have another try at attaching one.
    Thanks for your help.

I've tried this, my program (windows xp) doesn't seem to give me this option. The photo is already jpeg. The program does give me the option to "compress and email the file", but I need to have an email address. It won't compress and allow me to post it via this site. Am I on the wrong track here? Any other suggestions?

How bad are the stripes, can you post us a image with the problem to understand this better.

Basicly restoreing the camera to factory defaults might solve the problem but it also may be a hardware side issues.

But do post a image for us.

Are the lines vertical or horizontal on the pictures? Please let me know so I can narrow down the exact problem.

    Try this,
turn the flash off and turn the camera around so you're looking
at the lens, and snap a picture. You should be able to hear and see the
movement of the shutter blades. If you don't, then it means that they
may be opening at the wrong speed or not at all and overexposing your
photos, in which case you'll probably have to take it in for repair as this can be difficult to do yourself. If you can, try doing this with another camera and see if you notice a difference. You may have something just slowing down the shutter speed so I would try blowing some air in by the lens to see if anything clears out or bump it gently on the palm of your hand.

    open the picture in Paint

Go up to the options and click on the "IMAGE" option and pick Sketch/skew and then put 20% into both the vertical and horizontal size, then save it as a .jpg file and send it to bestdarntootingood@yahoo.com but please do what I suggested in my second comment first

It's likely something wrong with your camera.
You may do the following test:
Try to format your card (warning: everything will be wiped) and then take some more pictures.
If the problem persists, then you probably need to take it to a service center.

My photos are 2.5MB each. How do i take photos that are smaller and easier to download? I use a Pentax Optio M10. Cheers

In the shooting mode, press the MENU button. Use the cursor keys to select "Recorded Pixels".Select the desired image size and press the OK button. Press the MENU button to exit the menu.

Full details are in the "Selecting the Recorded Pixels" section of the manual (page 75 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download a copy at

Hello

OK, this sounds to me like an CCD error. This is unfortunately once of the more expensive components on a camera to be repaired.

I would suggest that you take this camera to your nearest repair store, explain to them what the problem is, and let them let you know how much it will cost to replace the CCD.

Hope this cam be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

I have a Pentax Optio M10, I was asked if I wanted to reset the camera and once I did all of the pictures were erased.

Belatedly I've learned that it pays to take a digital photography course when you own an M10. It's a great camera but it expects a lot of you and the manual is hard to comprehend. When you reset the camera, you erase the entire photo memory -- you should only use it when you want to clear out the memory.
IF you have vital photos there that you want to retrieve (like wedding picture), you can take your photo card to a photo store and for (I'm told) $100 to $150 they can possibly retrieve your pix. My instructor said there also may be some free recovery software out there online, although he didn't give any specifics. Good luck!
