FM section not working

My Sony ICF-2010 works fine in every respect except the FM section is dead. 76.000 MHz is displayed on the screen when the FM mode button is pressed. Then the radio remains frozen, i.e., no other buttons work until the computer batteries are removed and reinstalled, then it turns on fine in the AM mode. When frozen in the FM mode the 76.000 MHz remains displayed even after the power is turned off.
