Question about Harman Kardon AVR 100

1 Answer

AVR 110 The system turns on and off but no sound at all .... I did notice that it states SURR OFF, but can't find a way to turn on.... Also it says ANALOG ... but we don't even have sound from the radio either.... We have checked all connections and have had it setup for quite some time the same way... Could it be the machine itself or is there something we are not doing.

check ur speaker connection first or may be ur receivers speaker setup have some problem. except frond speaker all the others will be off mode. change the speaker setting.
press osd button on the remote to bring audio setup. select ur speakers large or Small or large according to ur speakers. then test again.

States zone 1 off on startup. cannot get any sound.

In the manual that I just uploaded on page 61 there is a big WARNING. You might have accidently adjusted the audio form zone 1 (main system audio) to turn off. use the manual I uploaded to walk you through the re-setup of zone 1. It's in 'main menu - system setup - advanced - Zone 1 Setup A'.

Can n ot get rear surrround speakers to work

On this reciever you have rear surround and rear back spkrs, if your using the surr back they have to be assigned if unassigned in the settings. If using rear surr spkrs change your surr field to 5ch stereo and your rear speakers will work.
There is no 7.5 unless you have 5 subs the 7 is the total number of speakers and the .1 is the number of subs in the system

AVR 110

Hi,

This could be indicative of the built-in protection circuitry kicking in to prevent further damage to the unit. It has sensed a fault and therefore shuts the unit off.

Further diagnosis/repairs of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Looking in the manual (link below) I see that this receiver uses 8ohm speakers, check that your speakers are 8 ohms or more. I think that connecting 2 sets of speakers to the same output is the problem as when you connect speakers in parallel (i.e. just twisting both pairs of wires together) you effectively half the impedance. So if 2 sets of speakers of 8ohms are connected this way the result will be 4ohms which is too low and will cause the unit to go into standby. Try removing the additional front speakers & see if the fault persists. If it does then it is likely a fault in the wiring. http://www.harmankardon.com/product_support/support_detail.aspx?Region=USA&Country=US&Language=ENG&cat=&prod=AVR%20110&sjump=om&#active
