I have a Sony VGC-RC310G desktop computer. Two nights ago, I was downloading updates for windows, from the Microsoft website. I turn it off when i went to bed, and restarted the following morning, only to find the windows program would not get beyond the logo screen. I tried going back to last good data point, and it still did not open. I went to the safe mode, and the scroll of drivers stopped at Mup.sys. So, I cannot open it in safe mode either. I contacted Microsoft windows experts and spent 20 minutes working through the problem to no avail. They recommended I get the recovery disc to this machine. However, no recovery disc or systems disc came with the machine, since this machine has it on another drive, and is supposedly one can access it in case of trouble. But this doesn' work either. So, is there a way I can get a systems recovery disc, or can you help me in some way get into the computer to get Windows OS to function again? Thanks

So, your description said that you turned off the computer during software update process, that sounds not good at all. Updates need to run to completion, or major failure happens.

You did not mention the version of Windows that you are using, so help is limited.

BE aware that a system restore means all data will be overwritten and lost. I suggest that you extract all data before you do anything. remove the hard drive and hook it up to a good computer, via USB and get all of your files and settings.

The machine probably has the restore files on the D:\drive.

Have you tried different SD cards and card readers?
Back up your registries and perform a system restore.
Run malware bytes and run a complete scan on your computer if possible try this in safe mode with networking.(restart the computer ant start tapping F8 key and select safe mode with networking)

I am wanting to make sure that I am buy the

You are correct about the Video card that is in the system from the Factory but what you need is the interface which is x16 PCI Express/ So just look for a graphics card with that same interface. I have also supplied a link to Newegg. They have Great deals on viedo cards and they make it easy to search for the one you want. http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-3380368-10440558

I cannot boot my vgc-rc310g after removing trogan horse (2ea)

Your laptop still has a virus. From your description, you seem computer savy. What u need to do is you need to boot your system with UBCD ( can be downloaded at www.UBCD4win.com) and search for files with the extension as .exe and delete the ones that look like folders.

then you reboot and try and log into your system. Next, download a software called Combofix. You google it out and get a download. run that to remove the remaining viruses and fix your regsitry.
