For security reasons the only way you can unlock your Nuvi is to go to the Security location that you set up the programing... it will then automatically unlock for you.. Garmin will not unlock over the telephone.

You can go to the www.Garmin.com and get their phone number or address to send the unit to unlock

Cathy, what follows below is cut and pasted from a Garmin tip I wrote for your problem:-

"You have Garmin Lock activated on your nuvi: there are only two ways you can unlock it.

1. Enter the PIN code (but you clearly don't have it).

2. Take the unit to the Security Location you chose when activating Garmin Lock: it will then unlock without the PIN code and you can then either reset the PIN or disable Garmin Lock. The Security Location should not be the owner's home address, but many owners ignore this recommendation. Many owners choose their workplace or a close friend or relatives address for this purpose.

If neither option works then your unit is useless unless you send it to Garmin with proof of purchase. Garmin charge for the service and if your maps are not up to date then it's really a waste of money as the investment would be better spent on a new unit with current mapping.

I hope that you manage to either fix your problem using my advice or at least can decide whether to abandon the unit and buy another."

So to summarise, unless your seller knows the PIN or unless the seller can take the unit to where Garmin Lock was set up in order to deactivate it for you, you have purchased a useless brick, sorry.

Take the unit to the location at which you first entered the PIN. This is your security location. The unit will unlock and you can reset the PIN.

How to unlock password for garmin 760

Your only options for unlocking a PIN locked Garmin are:

1 - Enter the correct PIN
2 - Take the unit to the location at which the PIN was originally entered
3 - Send the unit back to Garmin.

Unfortunately, even if you perform master reset on Garmin GPS unit, it does not reset Garmin Lock security feature, which password-protect most Garmin electronic devices to deter theft. If you forget the PIN or password unlock code to unlock the Garmin unit, the best solution is to bring it to Garmin to get unlocked. “Secure Location” does not unlock a locked Garmin unit either as it’s only a temporary fix as when it’s turn on outside the security location, the device is locked again."

So unfortunately, there is only one option: You have to send your nüvi into the Garmin, who can unlock it. Remember original receipt.

The only way to do it is to go to the location you set as "home" in the GPS. When you are at that location, the GPS will not ask you for a PIN and you can then go in and change the PIN.

If you don't know what the home location is, you'll need to contact Garmin http://www.garmin.com

There are so many of these being stolen from vehicles, the PIN is designed to make the unit useless to thieves.

Hello smart costumer.
You never talked about the data.
i just asked you to go to the location you set as a home location.
that is your security location and Gps recievers don't ask a password there. You can reset the pin at that place.
I am sorry i thought you must have remembered your home location (as these are generally our home or offices) and you can go there without your gps being active and do the job.

Sir no problem you discarded the solution , but would definitely like to know the goooood solution for my future experience

Hi,

To unlock the device please follow these steps:

If you have forgotten your PIN, make sure your GPS antenna is up and able to acquire satellite signal and drive to your security location to unlock your Garmin device
Touch "Settings" (the wrench tool icon) on your menu and select "System."
Click "Restore" at the bottom of the GPS System Settings screen and hit "OK."
Touch the button next to "Garmin Lock" and touch "OK."
Enter a new four-digit PIN twice and hit "Yes" to accept the PIN. Your Garmin GPS device tells you to set a security location in case you forget your PIN.
Hit "OK" and drive to your security location. Touch "Set."

To reset the device back to factory settings and erase all user data, press and hold the lower right corner of the screen and then power the unit on, a dialog will come up asking if you want to "Erase all user data", select yes.

This will take care of your issue.

This only resets the GPS unit back to factory settings but it does NOT remove the PIN required to activate the unit. That can only be reset by either taking back to the security location or by sending it in to Garmin with original receipt. There is a charge for this as it is not a warranty issue.
