Question about Hitachi 42EDT41 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television
Bought tv in sept 2004 and just yesterday noticed 1" black stripe going up/down spltting the screen in 2/3 and 1/3 segments. After 15 min it will disappear and stays off as long as you are on.After cooling down for 30 to 40 min in tv off mode, when I turn tv on black stripe comes back.Hitachi recommended tv repairman was not helpful on phone, saying it will cost more than new tv.Any suggestios?
This is an old post but maybe it will help others. You will have to take the back off of the TV. On the bottom you will see ribbon cables coming from the screen and connecting to 3 PC boards. Take the screws out that holds the cable down. Underneath you will see 4 resistors marked 100. All you have to do is re-solder the resistors and your vertical line will be gone. You need to be good at soldering or you could damage the ribbon. The only ones that you have to re-solder is the ones in line with the lines on the screen.

Had the same problem. Was quoted $800 to fix. Searched the internet for 6 months and found this thread on avforums.com
Read through all the posts. Very simple fix, but you have to have some mechanical inclinations or you can cause more problems than you started with. I was up to 5 of the black lines, but decided to attempt the soldering these guys did and fixed it all for the cost of a soldering iron! Even if you decide not to attempt it, it gives you somewhere to start to tell a technician.
