The sbm1040 chip is available from Digikey. It is a 40volt, 10A, rectifier diode. The previous chip suggested MBR2515 is a 15V, 25A Chip.

The Digikey parts came in and turned out to be about 5 X bigger than the original package!

I added wires to them and mounted them off to the side and away from under the heat sink.

Unfortunately, this did NOT solve the problem. It shut down sooner than before a few times.

Then I tried to go into the bios settings. But couldn't find any power management settings there.

So I went into the control panel and turned off everything like display, hard drives and low power alarms.

It still crashed one time (maybe I didn't reboot???).

I left the unit on all night with it stuck in the bios setup menu (not windows). It was still on in the morning. Hmmmm...???

Then I ran msconfig and put it in Diagnostic Boot. Then I putt it back to Normal Boot.

It's been running for over an hour now.

My daughter says it crashes when she loads Roblox. I noticed that the Charge led goes off for a few seconds. I don't remember that happening before except when it shut down unexpectedly.

I'm still not positive that it's fixed or which fix did the trick.

Also... I noticed that the screen was flickering a bit too.

I'm running off a Docking Station power and have tried wiggling the connector and banging on the unit to check for bad connections. Seems solid.

It's probably a SBM1040 and is available at Digikey as MBRB2515LT4GOSCT-ND. (I thought it was a "W" too.<lol>)

The minimum order is 10 Pcs. at $2.00 each.

I'm hoping this will fix the intermittent power supply shut-down problem.

The CPU is running cool and I re-soldered some loose connections on the memory cards that were also acting up.

I have the whole thing dis-assembled and there are 2 of these at PD33 and 34.

PD 33 is under the fan and requires very little disassembly to replace.

But since I have it apart and I need to order 10 pcs. I may as well replace both.

P34 is to the left of the keyboard and requires much disassembly.

I didn't need to remove the DVD or the memory, though I already did.

Mine is a zd7000.

Someone mentioned checking the schottky diode(s) if the battery charge light is going out when the shut down occurs.

Best Wishes,
Stan P.

If you have flashing Caps Lock and or Num Lock keys, there may be damage to the do you fix that

You need the services of a company that can re ball the GPU. Have a look on ebay for re balling services.
What happens is the solder melts due to lack of cooling and the GPU fails. Removing the Video Chip from the mother board, cleaning the chip and board and then using solder balls, re solder the chip to the mother board. I do this with my BGA rework station.

Hp dv6000 laptop screen blurry

Hello Al,

I hate to inform you but the graphics chip in these laptops are known for doing this. HP is aware of that. Every time some one brings me a Hp Dv6000 laptop about 75% of the problem is the system board or overheating issues.

First try cleaning the laptop screen with laptop screen cleaner

Walmart LCD Display Screen Cleaner for TVs Computers and Cameras

if its still blurry connect a external monitor to your laptop to see if the display is blurry on the external monitor (to get to toggle the video from your laptop you will have to press the Fn key + F4)

If its still blurry then its the graphics card or chip needs to be replaced. They are all integrated with the system board / mother board.

If its clear and images are good then the laptop screen will need to be replaced. hope that helps.

Toshiba tab turns on but Screen stays black what do I do

I would check the ram chips first,, pull them out and reinstall them, most of the time this will work. if not.... try starting the laptop with only one ram chip installed, then try the same thing with the 2nd ram chip install,, test one at a time..

If this dont work it may be a bad GPU connectoin to the mother board,
This can be fixed but in most cases a new mother board is needed.

I have an hp pavilion dv6 laptop, the power button 'n lights is responding once you press it, but after that the screen is blank and the keyboard is not functioning.. i tried to remove the battery and...

The HP DV's get to hot and the Video chips over heat do to hair, dust, and other debris that often gets trapped by the heat sink and over time builds up in a layer which chokes off the cool air going to the processor and video chips

If ist a AMD sometimes its just the CPU chip.
It could also be a bad ram chip or hard drive.

But sorry to say 75% of the time its the video chip and you need a new mother board to fix or try to reflow the video chip..

there are videos on youtube to show how to reflow this chip, but it need to be done right and should be done with a reflow station NOT A HEAT GUN!!..

You can also send it to a shop to have it reballed with a BGA station Just make sure they have a BGA station. some shops will use a heat gun and that will only do a temp fix

Screen looks like notebook paper

You can try an external monitor if the external monitor has the same lines then its the video chip on the mother board. But if the lines are not on the external monitor then it's the LCD on the laptop.

please Rate and vote Thanks, Hope this helped you.

MY HP WONT START UP....... after pressing start button, the LED lit up and then nothing happens...I tried all the possilbe ways available on the internet........nothing worked...Can't get inot its Bois,...

Ok, this doesn't work on every HP, nut it does for alot of them.

1: remove power cord and battery, so that there is no electricity to the laptop

2: hold power button for 16-20 seconds...this is a master reset mode for the bios...sometimes HP bios freezes up

3: replace battery, then power cord in that order before attempting to boot up

4: Try to reboot your system. Like I said, this doesn't work for every HP, but it does work on alot of them.

This is because HP system boards sometimes freeze, and the procedure I am telling you about is the "unfreeze system"

My Laptop DV6000EU in Aug 2007. Warrenty on Mother board

it should be under waranty seeing that the motherboard is malfunctioning again. normally the hardware will go out before the motherboard and seeing that its the same problem again mark the motherboard in a nice little place with a marker to insure they are not doing a repair and giving you back the same faulty board.
