1
Start up your computer.

2
Immediately insert your Windows XP install CD. As the computer boots, a boot menu will appear (if you did not insert the CD in time, you will not see the menu; in this event, simply reboot the computer again).

3
Select the option to boot from the CD. A setup screen will soon appear.

4
Press the "R" button on your keyboard at the setup screen in order to open the repair console.

5
Type in the administrator account's log in password if you are prompted to do so. If there is no log in password, simply leave the password slot blank and continue. After this step, a command prompt will appear.

6
Type in "chkdsk" (minus the quotation marks) and press "Enter." Allow the operation to run.

7
Type "Exit" (again, minus the quotation marks) when the operation is complete, and press "Enter." If your computer boots correctly, great! If not, move on to the next step.

8
Reboot and repeat Steps 3 through 5.

9
Type "fixboot" (minus the quotation marks) and press "Enter." Once it is complete, repeat Steps 7 to 8.

10
You might need to reinstall your operating system.

Thanks.

restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell what file has been corrupted or missing then select restart if the problem still persists f8 back into safe mode you might need to select your operating system to load into safe mode
click start control panel administration tools computer management in the left panel events + to expand then system you will see all errors in right panel right click select properties this will tell you what has occurred and the time it occurred you might use the system restore to restore your system to an earlier time click start all programs accessories system tools you should see your system restore option

When I turn on my emachines t3265 desktop computer, it freezes at the logo, and does not proceed to Windows so I can log on. What is the likely problem, and how can I fix it?

Turn it on.
Hit the ESCAPE (or TAB) key to replace that colourful logo with the technical details of the computer's POST (Power On Self Test) messages. Look for any messages, such as "unable to boot from disk drive" or "disk-drive not detected". Also, remove any CD/DVD media from the CD/DVD drive. Also, remove any 3.5-inch diskette, and disconnect any USB memory-sticks BEFORE you turn it on.

Windows failed to start. a recent haedware or software change might be the cause to fix the problem file boot/bcd info. an erro occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data

while booting into windows keep pressing F8 from the first time you turn it on and then choose last known good. If this doesnt work, boot into safe mode and if you had put in new software uninstall it. you can also try checking the Command promt and use the term FIXboot, but you will need to goodle this for more exact approch. Finally you can put in a windows CD and choose repair.

Dell 4700 bios a06 2.8 ghz 64 bit bus=800mhz pentium 4 2.8 ghz microsoft xp pak 2 moterboard light= green abcd lights=green reset bios to factory settings computer keep shutting down.. windows dialog box...

You have a rootkit virus, the only answer is reformat the drive and start fresh, sorry.
After a fresh install is done immediately install service(can be downloaded free from microsoft.com) pack 3, because sp2 is vulnerable to a host of trouble.

WONT START UP

Check there is no bootable CD/DVD in the drive, if not then there is probably an issue with the laptop's hard disk that needs to be replaced by a technician. You could try booting into Safe Mode to see does that work by pressing F8 just before the Windows logo appears but it sounds like a dying or dead hard disk.

What have you gone through in the setup option? Have you tried the safe mode?

Go into safe mode and restore your system settings. Go to the Start menu, All Programs, Accessories, and System Tools, then System Restore. go through the wizard and pick a point in time before your computer crashed.

If you have any other problems, let me know.
