How make work an extigy with windows 7? It is possible?
O.K., I solved this problem and got my SoundBlaster Extigy to work with Win 7 (64-bit machine). Here is what to do:
Easy part:
1. Search your system for the old USBAUDIO.sys driver:
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wdma_usb.inf_9ce240de
2. Copy old USBAUDIO.sys, (d.02-11-2006) to usb or floppy
Trickypart :
3. Go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers
Rightclick USBAUDIO.sys (d.19-04-2008)> Unlocker >Choose Delete
4. Copy old USBAUDIO.sys, (d.02-11-2006) from usb or floppy to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers
5. Reboot.
6. At reboot, Windows will block the Extigy from starting "because the manufacturer's software was known to cause problems." Go into Device Manager (Right click Start button, Click Control Panel, Click Hardware and Sound, Click Devices Manager (under Devices and Printers section). You should see the Sound Blaster Extigy listed under Sound, video and game controllers
7. Uninstall the Soundblaster Extigy in Device Manager (right click the device)...click Uninstall
8. Close Device Manager
9. Remove Extigy USB connector from laptop/computer for at least 10 secs. and Turn off Extigy, Sub-woofer, Speakers
10. Now reconnectthe USB,
11. Turn on Extigy, Sub-woofer, Speakers.....
12. Windows will now install the July 13 2009 device driver
13. Right click on Speaker icon in taskbar....Click Playback Devices...Extigy should appear in the window along with any other playback devices installed on your computer.
14. Click on Extigy...make it the Default Device
15. Then, disable the internal speakers (in my case it was RealTech) and any other playback devices.
16. Right click Extigy, select Test....it works!!
If you don't have the Nov 2, 2006 driver, email me and we'll figure out a way to get it to you.
Good luck!!

I tried this solution with my old USBAUDIO.sys driver but it is not as old than Nov 2, 2006 and the solution doesn't work. Could you send me this Nov 2, 2006 driver at [email protected] ? Thanks a lot!

Windows 7 I dont know. But Windows XP no problem.
If you got plenty of cracking/static when using Windows Media
Player to play audio CD with Extigy, try this (works for me):
1. Do not connect Extigy to your computer yet.
However I think there is no need to disconnect other USB devices. I managed to use Extigy with USB keyboard and USB mouse without problem. But I can't say it will work for others.
2. Use a "fresh" Windows XP Service Pack 3. It must be Service
Pack 3. My computer couldn't handle Windows 7, so please try it yourself if you can get one.
3. Now connect Extigy to your computer. Do not use USB hub. Plug in straight to a USB port, prefereably USB 2.0 port.
Let Windows detect and install the required drivers.
4. Extigy now should work.
But in my case, the sound volume was very low, almost like silence.
5. What I did to fix it:
a. After that, I downloaded this driver:
http://www2.wildbunchradio.com/extigy/SB_install.nrg
b. I installed only the driver (yes, only the driver), but only after I
am done with step 1 to 3 above.
c. when I played audio CD with Windows Media Player, the volume was very loud. However, no skipping, no cracking, no static at all. I am satisfied. I only needed to lower the volume.
Regards,
Peter
Peter here again.
Step 1 to 3 is meant to force Windows to use SP3 provided driver. So there is no Extigy driver used here.
Step 5 is to use Extigy driver only when there is problem with sound volume.
Nrg file is a Nero CDROM image. Use Nero to burn it to CD. Or look at "NRG" wiki to find out more on how to use this file.
Works well on my laptop: NEC VersaPro made in Japan, 2GB ram, virtual memory paging disabled, with USB keyboard and USB mouse attached to Cardbus USB port. No tweaking of BIOS, or Windows was done.
