how do you connect it properly? might be hard but can you describe in more detail?
    no one shows it well

  • chrish2889 Jun 06, 2008

yes many times! they say it is hard and it is. hard to see what they are doing....

  • chrish2889 Jun 06, 2008

I try and try and can get it to go in a little but then it comes apart when i try to put tape on it. sometimes i do this when it is on-- wouldnt there be some flicker on the screen if it was somwhat connected ? i am wondering if there is power to the screen afterall and dont have a meter. how would power have been lost to the screen? did i touch something on it that made that happen and can i jump start it anyway?
i do see a couple pins missing....

  • chrish2889 Jun 07, 2008

the cable has gotten a little bent on one side and 2 ? pins are missing from the device. It can't work with most of the pins, then? do you know what may cause screen to lose power? -- curious about that.
    thanks for your help!

  • chrish2889 Jun 08, 2008

well, i may take it in and see what they say. I could buy a different brand for less probably though... bummer!
    thanks for all your help!

You will have to open it back up and make sure the cable from the screen is connected properly

Let me know how this works out for you and whether you have any more questions

take a few pictures of the connection you are having problem with and email them to me at bestdarntootingood@yahoo.com so I can be as specific as I can with your device.

I know this is hard but when reconnecting the cable, it must be pressed all of the way together in the connector, try using tweezers if you are having trouble and make sure you keep the screen as close to the connection as possible when assembling as it may pull back out.

the screen is on correctly for one thing ok...

Now if you had the screen hovering directly above the rest of the device in proper orientation, you should be able to slide the cable into the connector like you said you tried. This is correct.

To do this, tilt the top of the screen in the direction of the bottom of the unit and slide the connectors together and the metal pins should be touching each other. Now you referred to the tab that moves up and down, this should lock down in place on top of the cable connector to secure it in place and then you should be able to put the face plate back onto the unit and it should work. If it still doesn't let me know, but first check for broken pins, (these are the little metal pieces connecting together and also see if there is any power running from the device to the screen if you have a meter to test this. Let me know how this works out and if you run into any trouble and thanks for the video.

The pins are missing from the cable I assume. See if they are also missing from device connector. If not, you can either buy a new screen or first you can take it to an electronics store and have them look at it quick for you and see if they could fix it for you for a cheap price.

certain pins are in charge of certain things, the pin that supplies power probably is the one missing if nothing comes up on the screen. there could also be a loose area in the cable at the connector if pins are missing

How to change the battery

Have you tried going to the www.creative.com/support site? It's a very informative site for my ZEN V, even though I still can't figure out how the LCD display went black and has never recovered. I hope this helps.

If your Zen V is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."
