About 6 mos ago my unit started to emit a foul odor. It smells organic like a lake or something. It isn't constant but I can't get it to go away! I bought new plates and filters since mine were pretty old. I have cleaned it thouroughly with alcohol and nothing worked. When I put a new clean plate in, it smells ok for about 2 mins then it starts to smell. HELP. I know sometimes the ozone can react badly with somethings (like Paint fumes) but I can't imagine what it could be reacting with, nothing has changed in my home. My house stinks and its embarrassing!

- Thanks for the comments, I have tried the ozone level adjustments but it is still there.. I actually like the smell of ozone it smells like rain. I have contacted living air and all they told me was to buy new plates and filters, which I did, but nothing worked... my only other option was to buy a new unit but times are tough and I really cant afford it right now. So I guess I am just stuck for now. Appreciate your help.
Can you control this odor by adjusting the ozone (O3) control? High levels of O3 smell obnoxious or irritating to some people; you want a fairly low concentration (~40 ppb - that's parts-per-Billion, not much).
It sounds like you've done everything else right. Have you consulted with the dealer you bought from? How about EcoQuest? If it's not the O3 level being too high, then perhaps there's something goofy with the unit. If it's under warranty, pursue that option. You should have contact infor with the unit; respond if you need it and I can post it.
Let me know.

- OK, I sure understand about not wanting to spend the $$$.
When you cleaned it, did you completely tear-down the chassis (removal of the 4 screws in the bottom, ease-out the power switch to disconnect the wires, unplug the fan terminals, etc.) so you could pull the whole chassis clear of the outer case. Be careful, those fan motor spade terminals can corrode with long term (5+ yrs) use.
I'm trying to figure if it's the case, or something hinky with the electronics. You comment about it being "organic" makes me wonder if something is perhaps amiss with the cabinet (possibly the chipboard got wet at one point and is growing that smell?)
It doesn't cost us anything to talk back & forth, and I'd like to figure this out.

I have a Classic Living Air model XL-15C. I keep hearing a loud rattling noise from inside. I believe the noise is coming from the (yellow light) fuse-located in the middle right side of the unit. I also noticed the fuse in upper left corner of the unit (which I believe lights up green) is not on -Would the rattling sound be due to the fuse needing to be replaced? Can I replace both fuses myself?

Not producing ozone, wire on little round sensor is broken on the small silicned in circuit board that is in the left rear of unit. Is this board replacable and if it is where can I get one?
