Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook

Power My daughter is having a problem with turning the computer on after it has been shut down. The box acts is if it is completely without power. I've tried everything, including what has been posted on the HP site for resolution. AC power, no battery.....battery no AC power.....resetting the RAM. The model is HP L2000 PN-EC184UA #ABA, but I could not find it in your drop down menu below Nothing. Then...with no warring, it will start normally after pushing the power switch. HP has suggested it might be a "relay". It this something you can diagnose and repair? Thank you.

Ok i did have the same exact problem it was not my laptop it was a customers,
i had changed the DC jack in it. and when the symptoms were showing no power i had put a multimeter up to it and it showed power constantly throughout the system to the battery and through. but i had realized that when i have the back off it would work and when i putit on it would stop. and other times when i took it off it wouldnt and when i put it on it would work. so i believe i came to a conclusion .

try taking out the battery and pushing it back in there, just slam it in there not too hard but push it swiftly and firmly.

It's the system board, you could try reseating it, sometimes it's enough to cure it. Failing that it will have to be replaced.

My tablet will not turn on after I restarted it.

Just guessing, however, I have found that I need to completely shut down electronics (remove all power sources, including those plugged into power and take a break). I am not sure but generally to actually shut down the power, you need to hold the power up button long enough to actually hear it shutdown.
after a break, begin restoring power to the tablet, the charger, any other related device. It might work.

How can i fix my C6180 HP photosmart computer with msg of improper shutdown from wall switch

Try what they call a hard boot. In other words completely power down ththe printer by either removing the power cord or shutting down via the power button. If this does not work try to enter the menu and clear the arror code manually. Hope this helps.

The easiest way to resolve this problem should be to reset the SMC - System Management Controller - which deals with how power is distributed to various parts of your Mac, including the fans.

How to reset it depends on what kind of Mac you have, though.

For 'desktop' Macs, including iMac and Mac Pro:

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
  3. Wait fifteen seconds.
  4. Attach the computer's power cord.
  5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

If you have a portable with a battery you cannot remove:
  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
  3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
  4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.

If you have a portable with a battery you can remove:
  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
  3. Remove the battery.
  4. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
  5. Release the power button.
  6. Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
  7. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
That should take care of the problem. Good luck!

Daughter turned my laptop off while i was making tea now im unable to start it says its repairing the problem but stays on that page and does nothing

Shut it off completely and restart. Depending on the make of the laptop either press a special button or press the start button without lifting the finger until it goes off. If It does not go off, simple take off the power cable and unhook the battery from the bottom of the computer. Reattach power and restart normally. With luck it will be OK enjoy your tea.
If on startup the computer gives you a baffling list of startup choices on a black screen, click the up or down arrows to choose LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION (or some similar wording). If the problem persists check how to repair the installation without losing your data using a Windows installation disc. Better ask a support technician or a tech-savvy friend about that.

How do i get out of hibernate mode and get into standby

To get the computer back up again and out of hibernation you should just hold the power button down until it shuts off completely. Some laptops won’t shut off even if you do this. When this happens you have to take the battery out to get it to turn off. Make sure it is not plugged into the wall when you do this otherwise it wont work.

Also the following may be of interest.
You must be logged on as an administrator or member of either the Administrators or Power Users group in order to successfully complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, the forced network policy settings may prevent you from completing this procedure. In this case please consult your Network Administrator.
  1. Click Start, then Control Panel, and then double-click Power Options.
  2. Click the Hibernate tab, and then select the Enable hibernate support check box.
If the Hibernate tab is not available, your computer does not support this feature.
  3. Click OK to close the Power Options dialog box.
  4. Click Start, and then click Shut Down then select Hibernate.
If you are using Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows XP Professional with Fast User Switching turned on, the Shut Down menu will present the options to Stand By, Turn Off, or Restart your computer. Hold down the Shift key, and the Stand By button will change to Hibernate.

Shutting off

Try running it without the battery and see if it does the same. Sometimes a bad power supply will cause a short to develop in the battery. If it stops shutting down without the battery the you'll need a new battery.

Computer shuts down but does not turn off

Mchem, you actually have 2 separate issues going on there.
  • Open control panel > open the system control panel
  • in the system properties, click on the advanced tab
  • in the startup and recovery section, click the settings button
  • In the startup and recovery dialog box, under system failure, remove the check from the automatically restart option
  • click ok
  • click ok

  • Open control panel > open power options
  • in the power options properties, select the advanced tab,
  • in the power buttons section,
  • When I press the power button on my computer: click on the drop down menu and select the shut down option
  • click ok
Sebastien123, you only need to run the first part of this solution.
