Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC

1 Answer

Xp reinstallation win xp installation I wanted to reinstal xp. While installing, by oversight, I chose to install in the same partition without affecting the existing windows installation. Only after completing the whole installation I realised that the partition had two windows folders. One was Windows. The new installation was named as windows0. Now I have two sets of Windows. When I boot, it asks for the choice and when I select the latest installation it goes through. The old installation windows is occupying space. How to remove it? When I want to take an image file of the partition, it will also take windows. May I request the experts to guide me as to how to remove my old installation of windows from my system without affecting the existing windows setup. pscraja

Sir,

The issue is comman with XP and the resolution is very simple as well but you have to follow the steps which i tell you:-

1) Logon to Working windows copy which you installed.

2) Go to My Computer-->right click-->Click on Properties-->Advanced-->Startup And Recovery-->Click on Settings Button-->In next window change the time to show the list of operating system to "0"

3) Now Restart Your computer. Now you will not see two options.

4)Login to windows XP and Go to you "C" drive and delete the old windows folder now.

That will reslove the problem.

Dual Boot Xp & windows 7

First you have to create partition. You need at least two partition. One in which you intall Xp and other for win 7. WARNIG BACK UP YOUR DATA BEFORE THIS.*(You can create partion by any hard drive manager you can make a hard drive partition in control panel>administrative tool>create & manage hard drive partition)
Now install xp first in one partition. If you have pre installed then avoid this step.
Now install Win 7 in another partition.
After you restart the machine will ask to chose your os. & just select the required OS.

If any problem appears then just put win XP disk & repair it.

You cant install win Xp after windows 7.
You have to format win 7 before installing Xp.
Commiting any of trick or Tweak you need to backup your data in another HD partition

You need to check if there any Boot Information in partition that is used by WinXP. In this situation best way is to reinstall Win7, and format all your partitions as you want in Win7 installations process.

How do i remove windows vista and install windows xp with out losing all my other stuff

If your Vista still work, go to the control panel> administrative tools> computer management > disk management > create an additional partition (larger then my documents folde size)
Move your files to this partition then install xp.

A few tips
  • Make sure there xp drivers for each componenet
  • Use driver magician and find xp drivers (check the pc mfg site and download all xp drivers and put them on this partiton too.
  • Use a partition program (dos) and format the vista partition and the hidden partition that vista creates or xp won't go in properly

On my pc running win xp pack2 i want to install win 2000 pro. how can i do it? please suggest me.

You can either run a dual-boot system where you can boot into XP and Pro when you start your computer, or reformat and install 2k.

If you want to dual-boot you would need a blank partition on which to install it. Unfortunately if you do not already have more than one partition on your current drive, it would be difficult to split a single partition drive into adding another partition unless you are familiar with the tools required to perform such an operation.

However, if you only need to install 2k without having access to XP, all you need to do is insert the Win 2k disk and follow the installation wizard. When it comes to selecting where to install, it should show a partition containing winXP, which you can then install 2K to. Remember, all files on your XP install, including the operating system itself, will be removed. You would lose everything on that partition. If it is a single partition drive, anything on the drive is removed. You should back up any files you want to save by either transfering them to a different drive if you have one, or burning them to CDs/DVDs.

Select the partition you want to install to (if it's a single partition disk, there will only be one listed. If there are more partitions, you can select a different partition to install to which would allow you to keep XP), and I would recommend selecting reformatting the partition to NTFS.

Once it is done reformatting and copying files, it will ask to restart. Restart the computer, but do not press any keys upon startup when it pauses to ask to boot from CD. Wait until the 2K graphical installer loads from the disk, and then you can follow the setup wizard for 2K.

If you have any questions or problems, please add a new post stating them, and I will try to answer.

Win vista uninstall

Put your window XP disk into the Disk drive. Start up your computer. When it asks you what Drive you want to install it on select C:\ (where Vista is) Say yes to deleting the current Operating System and follow the instructions from there.

You did say you wanted to Uninstall Vista!

If you mean Dual Boot Vista and XP, then you will need to create a Logical Partition of about 10 Gb to install XP on and when asked where to install select this partition. But note that XP will wipe the Boot sector clean of all other Operating Systems which means that if you want to Dual boot then you will have to reinstall Vista again to get Dual Boot functionality.
