My 5100 will not boot, keyboard does not work ,usb not working or touchpad.

Have tried the hard drive in another machine it`s ok.

I disconnected the cmos battery still nothing.

Very disapointing from a machine only 15 months old, this will be my last Acer!

I have been a pc specialist for 14 years, and have seen this problem many times! sometimes there is a work around, most times the motherboard is damaged! you could try to find a used motherboard but may be no better off! you must weigh the cost of repair and used parts against the cost of a new notebook! I believe this to be a chipset failure.try removing memory modules and re-installing same.or try other modules if available.good luck!glen!

acer! i have put 100 or so hours on these crappy acer 5100 notebooks! i have had it! do not buy acer! and if you do make sure you have alot of $ so you can buy a new one every year! there is a flat rate fee of 449.00 for acer service! don't do it!

simple is hard when chipset is damaged. only to get the cannot start code 10 message. had to take it apart, deal with surface mounted chips, resoldering some of these chips helped one problem, but the keyboard, touchpad controler chip is shot. finding chips for that kind of stuff is nearly imposible, acer was no help, and the $400.00 flat rate fee for repair is excesive!(nearly the cost of a new notebook) i can't see why anyone would pay that very steep price.so if the software and drivers,or even a operating system redo does not activate these devices, you would be no better off.so the work around is the only fix,or a new one, or the very high factory repair.

Start simple - Restart computer first and try again.

If that fails, then remove the hardware that is not working in add/remove hardware, restart computer, and add hardware wizard will re-add it properly upon restart (this may be hard to do if your mouse is not working)

If that fails, reinstall your OS and everything from scratch - if you don't know how to do this, I would seek a professional or at least a knowledgeable computer person

If you have Vista, check Acer website us.acer.com for further instructions

How do I reactivate the mouse pad when I am not using a remote mouse?

Normally there should be a key on your keyboard,
usually combined with an F key (eg. F2, on top of your keyboard)
If pressing this does not help then maybe you should look
if you have certain software installed on your PC for your
mouse, you might be able to switch it on in that program.

Aspire 5100 mouse is frozen how to fix problem

Try restarting your computer by pushing the windows button on the bottom of the keyboard on the left side, generally next to the ALT button. use your arrow keys to move over to the shut down button, select restart and restart your computer. Or you can shut down and then push the power button to start up your computer. This should help reset your laptop and unfreeze your mouse.

If this does not work, go to the control panel, again using the windows button and the arrow keys. select mouse, then go thru the tabs on the window to make sure that your mouse pad is selected to control your mouse.

If you found this information helpful, please remember to leave positive feedback.

Thank You,
Brian
