To do that, hold both the sleep/wake and Home buttons together for at least
The red shut down slider will show up at the top of the screen and then
disappear. Keep holding the buttons. The screen may even go black, but don't let
go of the buttons until the Apple logo shows up. When it appears, let the
buttons go and the phone will start up normally.
To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. During this time, a red "power off" slider may appear and the screen may go black, but do not release Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.
If iPhone won't turn on, or the display freezes or doesn't respond
Press and hold the Home button for at least six seconds, until the application you were using quits.
If that doesn't work, turn iPhone off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for 10 seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't work, reset iPhone. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

Turn iPhone off and turn it on again. Press and hold the
Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for a few seconds until a red slider
appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake
button until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't work, connect it to the iPhone charger and let it charge for at least 10 minutes. Note: iPhone 3G does not support FireWire and will not charge from any FireWire-based power source.
that doesn't work, toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit
vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is
not displaying any image. (see "Display has no backlight or dark
screen" below for further troubleshooting.)
connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone. Press and
hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or battery symbol
appears. If the battery symbol appears, continue to charge iPhone until
it is fully charged.
Try this first:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake (on top of the iphone) button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. The phone will turn off. Then, push and hold it again, until the phone comes back on.
If that doesn't work, try this:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. This will do a "hard reset" and should bring your iphone back to life!
