Lens not attached

I juste get my brand new Nikon D40x and I fixed my lens and I have a ''LENS NOT ATTACHED'' problem. May I clean my lens? Do I have to ship my lens to the store? Is that a body problem? Please help me

Is there a piece of tape across the lens contacts, like the film over a print cartridge head? I would think that is the only communication between the lens and the body.

When I turn my D40 on there is an F flashing and it says Lens not attached , can you tell me what this means and how I can fix it?

If the lens has the electronics to communicate with the camera, try cleaning the electrical contacts on the back of the lens and in the lens mount on the camera body. If the lens doesn't have the electronics to communicate with the camera, set the camera to manual (turn the mode dial to M) and set the exposure manually.

If you're not sure whether the lens has the electronics or not, tell us what the lens is.

How do I get it to work? I have a Nikon D40x and have just bought a macro extension tube. When I turn on the camera it says that no lens is attached. I have a 18-55mm lens attached at the end of the tube...

Turn the mode dial to M for Manual. You'll lose all through-the-lens metering capability, so you'll have to review your pictures or else use another light meter.

Says lens not attached when it is, pictures black

Clean the contacts on the body and the lens where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened in rubbing alcohol. See if that makes a difference.

My son dropped my Nikon D40x, cracking a piece of the lens inside. It seem like a clean break; how can I fix it?

First, try it. If it still works, you're in luck. If not, well !!! Once a lens is broken, there isn't much that you can do, except replace it. Camera lenses are compound lenses, except on the smaller cameras. Compound lenses are stacked and glued sets of lenses, with specific distances between sets. If it is an expensive lens, get an estimete for a repair price. It might be cheaper to just replace it.

Your lens is faulty - have you dropped the camera?

Get the kit changed. That should not happen right out of the box, but make double sure the next time around, you charge the battery completely before using it the first time. Not doing this can cause problems.

'lens not attached'

We had the same problem. After inspecting the contacts I saw that the one metal ball (contact) that was separate from the other contact grouped on the mounting collar was stuck down. By pressing the contact a couple of times with a blunt object it freed up the contact so that when re-attached the lens it worked as expected.
