    same thing as Neera...

My computer was running very slow so i decided to reboot it to see if it helps. I went to the resart option and now it won't boot up. Instead it seems to be stuck in a loop:
    1. Briefly shows Compaq screen
    2. Briefly shows black screen stating Windows did not start successfully with options to start Windows in Safe Mode, Normal Mode, etc. Regardless of what option is chosen,
    3. Briefly shows Windows start-up screen
    4. Shows blue screen stating Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to the computer

It then sounds as if it is shutting down, then starts this process all over again. I have not downloaded any programs recently. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I have the same problem and it will not allow you to get to a prompt where you can run chkdsk/r or anything else that you listed. So, I am unable to disable virus scanning programs, backup programs, etc. What else would you suggest?

Solution :

  • Run chkdsk /r or chkdsk /f to detect and resolve any file system structural damage.
  • After you use the Chkdsk tool to repair the corrupted NTFS volume, rename %SystemRoot%\System32\Drivers\Ntfs.old to Ntfs.sys, and then shut down and restart the computer.
  • Try disabling any virus scanning programs, backup programs, or disk defragmenter tools that constantly monitor your computer.
  • Run any system diagnostics that are supplied by your computer manufacturer, especially a HDD check.

If you added any exta hardware means kindly remove it and boot the computer
Then you try boot by selecting the option of Boot using last known good configuration.
If the boot is successful then you can boot later booting without any problem.

If boot is not successful and this problem is happened after installing any software or driver software means boot in safe mode by pressing f8 key and uninstall it

Try safe mode.
If that works, there is a card or software that has failed.
Checking the cards is easy, take them out one at a time and restart, for motherboard features, shut them down one at a time.
For software, did you load anything new, even updates, if so remove them.
Mine turned out to be a bad PCI card for a scanner.

Hit F8 a few times while your computer starts to boot, a boot selection screen should come up. Try selecting "Last Known Good Configuration" and see if you can boot up without running the repair install.

Black screen comes up "windows did not start successfully...." choose from safe mode, safe mode with networking etc Last known Configuration or Start Windows Normally. Computer then tries to...

You should opt Safe Mode:
  • On the black screen just navigate throug up and down arrow keys.
  • Goto Safe Mode and press enter.
  • It will boot your system in safe mode.
If the boot is success full:
  • try to remember any software or hardware you recently installed/change. Then remove/uninstall that software/hardware. Also remove some device driver like Video/Audio driver and make re-start. and try to normal boot. If success then install your audio/video.
If no success then I think its time to re-install your windows.
Please post your feed-back.
