when inserting disc it spins for about 2 seconds ,stops and idicates no disc

Yes, same here: It spins aimlessyl for a few seconds then opens up again...

I have the same problem. The disc spins for a few seconds and then the display says no disc.

  • bob_oliver Dec 27, 2008

Me too, I've had it to bits and if you tip the tray up at an angle it works.  I cannot find anything mechanical wrong with the mechanism and I believe therefore that the problem is the transport mechanism motor which through time is no longer up to the task of pusshing the tray and pillar assembly up far enough when in its horizontal position.

My conclusion is that this would be a costly repair job and given the budget nature of the product not really worth fixing.....i'm off to the sales!!

    any fix?

If you observe the whole CD starting procedure with player's hood removed - and after properly loading the CD in the position - the CD does not spin at all - there is high probability the laser is dead. Turn off the light and repeat the drawer closing process WITHOUT any CD. Look at laser: does it emit red beam - does a VERY tiny dot inside the player lens blink? It is activated only during the first 2-3 s after drawer closes, and always during the lens focus movement up and down. (of course do not look too closely or straight - just a glimpse from the angle is enough) If there is no red dot - no laser emission. But maybe it is the circuit ? Another thing to check - providing the red dot is present - does the lens move up up and down repeatedly 2-3-4 times? It is a process where the laser tries to catch focus on the reflection from CD. If the red dot is there but no focus movement - the focus circuit is dead. Still - no need to replace laser. Check it with no CD - just open and close the drawer to initiate the focus movement procedure.

I have the red dot but the lens won't move up up and down repeatedly 2-3-4 times, so the the focus circuit is dead, but how do I fix it?

I've dealt with this type issue quite a bit.
Believe it or not the drawer belt needs to be changed.
If the drawer isnt drawn all the way into the unit...the disc motor wont spin and get rejected

Also, if it reads poorly, the lens on the laser could be dirty.

Take it to a tech . Try a local stereo store . They should know who's best. It's a quick easy job for a tech who knows what he's doing.

Happy new Years,

I am getting a TOC error on the left drive with new laser.

Table of Contents errors can be the result of bad compact disk, bad laser or the head cannot get into position to read the TOC, Make sure that the new laser is aligned correctly and that the head has no obstructions at either end of the rails. Last but not least you may want to make sure the laser is working and you can check that by using a camera like the one on your cell phone, With the cover off, insert a cd in the drive and have your camera pointed at the area of the laser. You should see the laser light on your camera.

Why does my CD player display "no disc"?

I had a similar problem with my DVD player. Cleaning the laser eye helped fix my problem. You can clean it manually if you are not afraid to remove the cover of the unit or you can try a cleaning disc. The eye can collect dust and prevent it from reading the ID sector of the music CD.

When a disc is inserted it spins about 3 revolutions & stops then the message says "NO DISC". So appears to not read or see the disc.

Hi Robert,
First of all, thank you for posting your question here at Fixya. You may try the steps below to resolve the issue.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. -Sometimes because of dust and any fine foreign objects the optical lens can'tread any disc. If you have a CD Lens cleaner, play it to the unit. If this isnot available you may manually clean the optical lens. Open the cover andgently clean the eye of the lens by smooth, clean, soft cotton buds. Be carefulwhile doing this, just a gentle stroke only.
2.Check the ribbon - Checkthe ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has anopen line then of course the lens can't read the disc, this is because of themovement of the optical lens back-and-forth. Also try to erase the contact by pencileraser. If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still there then thenext step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique and readingthe ohmmeter.
3.Check the spindle motor -Check the spindle motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test itusing the ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading should be fairly high and itwill spin. Bad motor-reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin or spin slowly.
HopeI helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

My DCM-360 has stopped playing discs after my moving house. It spins the carousel, picks up the disc and then puts it down without spinning the disc up. Laser problem or disc-spinning-motor problem or...

Had a similar problem with my Denon. When I inserted CD it takes it in but immediately stops - like it doesnt sense the CD. Same problem with Single or Multi changer. Removed cover, removed reader ( 4 screws) and found lens had fallen out. Cleaned, reinstalled with touch of super glue on rim - works fine.
