Norton 2008 anti virus

Hi steve
i have a toshiba satellite laptop i just paid for the renewal fee (basic) but the prompt of “I have already purchased a subscription, check my subscription status”, and then click “Next” did not come up, i am supposed to have remembered my product key when i first installed it 90 days ago, and i don't! should i ask for a refund? time is of the essence.

    thanks all,

    i had it fixed a few days ago. the problem is i could not find a phone number for them on the site anywhere



    the store i bought the laptop from found it for me and yes, voila! it was all done over the phone and remote access

No, contact Norton and they should help you recover the information. they will do that before they will give you a refund.

Not sure, but me personally, I would never install Norton or McAfee on my computer. They are nothing but core hogs and slow your system to a crawl especially when it gets close to renewal time. Why pay them to catch a virus when you can catch one for FREE? :)

Sounds like you have a virus. I would run Windows Defender, as well as your anti-virus program. FREE TIP: Free Anti-virus software is not as affective as one that is paid on a monthly (or other payment terms) basis. This is because with the paid software, it automatically updates virus definitions keeping your computer free of virus, worms etc.
I strongly suggest purchasing, if you're in a position to, Webroot. Please visit http://www.webroot.com for details. I have been using it since 2008, and I renew my user licence ever year or two. I am protected up until 2013 right now, of which I paid up at the beginning of 2008, and again in 2009. You can purchase a multi-user license which offers protection for up to three computers. You simply install the program on each computer that you want protected. Be advised however, if you get a new computer, remember to un-install it from the old one (if not using anymore, or if you have more than three) before installing on the new one. And, do not install on more than three, or you will violate the multi-user contract and may have your contract suspended. Webroot is an awesome program, and they have several.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop.It had a virus attack yesterday when i copied some files from USB..although Norton was installed.Windows 7 is installed ...it is new laptop purchased few days back from US...

I would say you to use Mcafee. Norton is good but slow down the system a lot.

Download AVG Free antivirus, it's good, and it's free. You don't need Norton or Symanetc.

How will i remove the virus manually?


i hope you got norton off your system before putting AVG free on. Virus programs try to fight off other virus programs by postiong false virus claims to erase the other program. eventually they will kill your hard drive. You need a product key for a good virus protectant. Norton or CA offer good, reliable protection for your dollar. What i would do, is back up any really important stuff you have there, format your hard drive and install Vista again if you have the disc and then re-install it to permanetly delete viruses. Also your system maybe slow because VIsta needs at least a dual core processor and 2 GB RAM to work like a XP machine
