Usually you

1) purchase the new hard drive
2) look around the base of your laptop to find where the HDD is, if you look at the manual which im sure acer will have on its site it will show you
3) usually 1 or 2 screws are unscrewed and you slide out the hard drive, it will be in a special holder
4) unscrew the old hard drive and insert the new one and secure it in place like the old one.
5) insert, re-do screws up, turn on laptop.

this new hard drive wont have any information on it so you will need to reinstall windows on that drive.

Hi can you upgrade a acer aspire one with a bigger hard drive

Glad to HELP YOU!

When you will go search for a new BIGGER HARD DRIVE for your machine check to have THE SAME PARAMETERS as the previous one:
* to be a SLIM HDD
* to be a SATA HDD

Once you got it you have to open your machine (the back cover) and to replace the hard drive. To replace the hard drive means to UNPLUG two connectors from the old HDD and to replug them (the same position) into the new one.

And you will be good to go!
GOOD LUCK!

I am trying to buy a replacement hard drive for my acer aspire 3500... what type of hard drive am i looking for ? is it the hdd ide 60 gb... can i get bigger gbs..... also can i use an stat converter on...

You would have to buy a IDE/ATA 2.5" Hard Drive at 4200 rpm.

You can buy a 80GB one here.

The model number is Seagate ST9808210A

Its about $56 dollars.

You can not use a sata converter on the motherboard.

Had a problem with "The

Laptops have a 2.5" hard drive, which is smaller than the regulardesktop PC HDD which is 1 inch bigger. Now, the older models have an IDE connection, where the newer models have a SATA connection, like yours. That's all you need to know about HDD, then you just have to choose brand and size that suits you (don't go too big as your laptop might not support it - check with the User Manual to the maximum size supported).

Having said that, it's easiers and cheaper to either try to delete your profile (you can do this by logging into a different account on your computer, Control Panel and then Accounts) and create another one or simply reinstall Windows OS on your laptop.

How can increase memory/speed on my Acer notebook? What is 'FAT 32'?

memory is a hardware upgrade which usually plugs in into the bottom of the laptop. If you look on the bottom you will see a couple doors that unscrew and, but depending on the laptop you will be limited to how much you memory you can add. Also since you are asking about fat32 I will assume your laptop is at least 6 years old (FAT32 is the format of the hard drive, old DOS used FAT, when Microsoft released windows 95, it made options for bigger hard drives called FAT32, then with the release of Windows NT and later Windows machine use a hard drive format called NTFS. NTFS is still the current disk format even with windows 7) NTFS is more secure and can handle very large hard drives. If you let me know what ACER you have I can let you know how much memory you can add.

try puting the hard drive in the frezer for 2 to 3 hr and you might be able to get the info off the drive hook it up as a slave hard drive. you should have the restor disk for the new drive, you can go to acer on line to get the drivers you need. hope thats helps. bobg22

Boot problem

There are three possible options ranging from free (if you are not afraid to open your laptop, locate and remove the bios battery) to $170 (for a new hard drive and a cloning kit).

Option 1: Here is a copy of an email from Acer Support:
Thank you for contacting Acer America. I apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry. In order to have the BIOS or hard disk password removed (This include any biometric security), the notebook will need to come in to our repair depot for password removal. This service is not covered by warranty and unfortunately there is no other recourse to remove a BIOS or HDD password from the notebook. The flat fee for BIOS password removal is $100.00 US dollars plus tax. If it is a BIOS or HDD password and you would like us to service it for you, please contact our telephone technical support line at 1-800-816-2237. Hours of operation are 7am-9pm CST Monday-Friday and 8am-5pm CST Saturday and Sunday, excluding holidays.

Option 2: Resetting an Acer BIOS Password Using Hardware.
If you cannot boot the Acer and don't want to send your computer back to Acer for an unknown amount of time, you can try to reset the BIOS password via hardware.
Tech FAQ Forum members have reported that they were able to remove their Acer BIOS passwords by simply opening their notebooks and removing the CMOS batteries for 30 minutes.
Once your BIOS password is removed, you will need to press the <F2> key during POST (Power On Self Test) to enter the Acer BIOS setup.

Option 3: Possibly resetting BIOS Password using Hard Drive Upgrade Kit and a new Hard Drive.
A colegue told me that he used a hard drive upgrade kit and during the cloning process the hard drive password was erased. He can not recall providing the password when he booted from the bootable cloning CD provided with the Kit and when he replaced the hard drive with the cloned one and botted the laptop, the hard drive password was gone! He had to go into bios to manually enter a new hard drive password.
The kit he used was about $50 - APRICORN EZ-UP-UNIVERSAL 2.5" USB 2.0 Hard Drive Upgrade Kit - Retail. He paid for a bigger hard drive separately, but he just needed bigger hard drive (and found out about the password erasure by accident).

HDD failure on an ACER laptop

With the exception of interface, laptop hard drives (2.5" drives) are easily interchangeable. You can look up the specs of the drive you pull by googling the manufacturer and model number, but the main specs are interface (sata or ide, yours is ide according to the info I found about this laptop- not interchangeable with sata), drive speed (yours probably 5400 rpm, faster ones are 7200), buffer size (usually 8 MB).
So, if you think the issue is your drive, check out something like:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1277&name=2.5-Hard-Drive
although Iwould probably go to a store personally instead of any kind of mail order. Take your old drive with you if you are not sure. You could even put in a bigger capacity drive; I believe your laptop came with only 80GB??.

Upgrade hd on laptopp

The easiest way is to remove the casing under your laptop and see what make your drive is, but any make of laptop hardrive sould be ok. Sometimes the hard drive may be held in a cradle so you will have to remove it if this is the case and use it with the new hard drive. A problem comes when you probably have the Acer backup/restore folder on another partition(which sometimes includes Windows, as you don't always get a hard windows cd rom),on your current hard drive, so make sure you have a Copy of Windows otherwise You'll have to purchase another Windows installation disc, or clone your drive with something like Norton Ghost.
