Usually you

1) purchase the new hard drive
2) look around the base of your laptop to find where the HDD is, if you look at the manual which im sure acer will have on its site it will show you
3) usually 1 or 2 screws are unscrewed and you slide out the hard drive, it will be in a special holder
4) unscrew the old hard drive and insert the new one and secure it in place like the old one.
5) insert, re-do screws up, turn on laptop.

this new hard drive wont have any information on it so you will need to reinstall windows on that drive.

My acer aspire m1641 lost operation system,

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Can't find the cmos

The cmos battery is a watch battery on the mother board. Normally the size will be about 1/2 inch accross. Depending on the amount of room in the computer, you may have to removed the hard drive, DVD/CD rom drive, and other components to get to it.

I wanna replace the DVDreader/writer in my Acer Z5600 for a Bluray unit reader/writer can I do this myself because Acerservice in Holland don't wanna do this for me...

Looking at the image of the machine; the DVD drive is a vertically loaded slot.
replacing the DVD reader/writer with a Blue Ray one... not entirely sure if it's possible without advice from the manufacturer (contact them to be 100% sure).
because of the physical dimentions of the screen; the DVD drive will be a laptop dvd drive not a normal desktop one.... so you could hunt online for a slot loaded Blue ray drive for a laptop... but again no guarantee without manufacturers confirmation.
most machines past 2005 have SATA connections inside for the optical drives; but also confirm this before spending money.

I have acer travelmate 2355nxc with 40 gb hdd. want to know how to increase its speed and capacity.

Hi, how are you?

To upgrade your laptop, you will have to verify the capacity for upgrade of your laptop.

The Acer Travelmate comes with:

  • Intel Celeron-M 360 Processor 1.4GHz
  • 256MB DDR SDRAM -
  • 40GB Hard Drive
  • DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive - To read DVDs and CDs and write CDs
  • 15" XGA TFT Screen
  • Intel 852GM 64MB shared graphics
  • Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition

  • Based on this information, you can upgrade your memory depending on what type of memory your motherboard supports and how many empty slots for memory does your laptop have.

The hard drive can be upgraded also depending on which hard drives does the BIOS will recognize.

I will suggest to contact ACER and ask for the options and upgrades capacity.

    God Bless You!!!

    Hope it helps.

    Upgade a acer hard drive

Upgrading a har drive on a desktop is pretty easy. just open the case (while powered down) pull out the hard drive and copy down the make and model. go to a computer store or online to newegg and buy a bigger drive in the same interface (ie. IDE or sata).

there is usually detailed instructions has to how to do the data swap and how to set the jumpers on with the new drive.

    Good luck

How to change a hard drive on an Acer Aspire 5500

If you have a little experience with computer hardware, you can try doing it yourself by carefully opening the screws(the hard drive area normally has a hard drive symbol on it) underneath to reveal the hard drive, carefully remove it from its slot and replace it with the new one.

It should be simple but if you are not sure or yourself, let an experienced person or a computer technician fix the new hard drive for you.

I need a new hard drive

You can go up to 120 GB for this model computer. Following is a link to Drive Solutions, Inc. It shows a 120 GB ATA drive available for your drive. ATA is the formal name for an IDE drive.

    Here's the link:

    Good luck.

??Windows won't start on Acer Laprtop Travelmat 290 running WIndows XP (1 & 2) It keeps saying start windows in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good...

give the "last known good configuration" a go if you have not already ,or the safe mode ,
    if that is no good
when the pc try's to boot up it should show a key ,such as (F11) that needs to be hit to enter the recovery stage ,what ever it is do it and follow the prompts, this should recover the laptop to its delivered state ,when it finishes you can restore your backups.
however if the drive does not have a recovery partition you will not be able to do it.
    So:

it may be that the hard drive is ok but the operating system files have been corrupted in some way,

as you have no windows disc you will need to obtain one to either recover the operating system or re install windows, and you may have to go to the Acer website afterwards for some drivers when you have finished.

    good luck
