Samsung HD300LD Hi, I was using the above 300gb drive in an external usb case, I have 2 different ones and when I moved house I may have mixed up the power supplies for the 2 different drives, when i plugged it in it went pop and now the drive does not spin at all, I tried it in a different case with the same results so it is definetely the drive that is dead, advice on if I can recover the data please? and how, Thank you in advance. Hi there,

Yes you can just take the hard drive out of the case, can use it with any other case, you can also just put it inside your computer and connect it to the sata cable :)

Heres a case you could use for your drive... Click Here

SOURCE: My segate 300Gb HDD keeps asking to format it when i recently pluged it into a new computer to transfer data to and it said that the driver didnt install correctly. since then it keeps asking to forma

I'm assuming that this was functioning at one point. If you are using Windows, Right click on my computer and click "Manage" Then go to disk management? Does it see the drive at all. If so, has a letter been assigned? It is possible that the operating system will show the drive even if it can't read the data. Look to see what file system and how it sees the disk having been partitioned. It is possible that your partition table has been corrupted. This can possibly be fixed using a tool like disk doctor or fdisk.

If, on the other hand, the drive is also making funny noises, you may have a mechanical failure on the drive.

Sounds like a driver issue with your hard drive. If you have the software that came with the hard drive you may be able to reinstall the drivers. Or, alternatively, look up the hard drive online and download the drivers from Samsung's website.

I found that often, external hard drives just don't have any active partitions and thus don't show up in Windows. Go into the control panel, administrative tools, computer management and then the disk manager and see if it has a partition. If it's just unallocated space, right click and make one.

I have tested the LA40C530 Samsung with a 300GB external hard disk and it works well without any issue. My guess is that it should support 500GB as well. I have played video/music/pictures on my WD 300GB HDD.

Maxtor one Touch 300GB no steady green light

Hi,

The USB Isn,t supplying/providing enough Power to the device.
Search e-bay or similar for a 2 into 1 USB Cable.
Then power the unit with 2 USB Ports on the Computer.
2 x USB Into 2 x Sockets On P.C. 1 x Into Device Drive.
This will be enough power to operate the Device Correctly.

I,ve done this on several external Drives, never failed for Me.

Maxtor external hard drive is not accessable

- Do you hear any beep sound when you plug in the USB drive into the laptop? - You can also try a different USB cable - Try connecting the hard drive to a different computer and see if it works All those steps will help you determine where the issue is. Please revert back with any other observations. Good Luck
