Using function now in excel

Need to update column "I" with current time as each employee checks into our excel check in sheet by entering 'here' in column "B". The time updates for every employee as each employee checks in rather then the column there name is in.

    On this post I assume that you have have a list of employees down a column such as "B" and in the "I" column their time for the day. What is the end result you are looking for?

No formula needed. Highlight the cells that you want to put the time into. These are Raw data cells. You can use other cells to calculate their times. Right click and Format Cells, choose time and the appropriate format you would like.

To insert the time click in the cell you want and do a CTRL-SHIFT-;

That is Control - Shift - Semi-Colon. This will insert the Time. Leave out the Shift and you will insert the date.

OR-----

Press Ctrl-F11
Type:

Sub GetTime()
Dim vTime as Variant
vTime = Format)Now, "hh:mm:ss am/pm")
ActiveCell.Value = vTime
End Sub

Now add the forms toolbar to your excel.
Click Button to add a button.
Choose the GetTime() Macro
Rename and resize your button.
Click in the field you want to time to go to.
Click the Time button.

    Correction... To create a macro the command is ALT-F11 not CTRL-F11

Create a program that will the salary, no of hours work, the deduction, total deduction and net pay.


The easiest way to do this is to use Excel spreadsheet.
This is what you need to do.
Create a label at the top of each column as detailed.
Add a employee to each row under Name of employee
Then against each employee add the data and the formula in the relevant cell under each column.

The first column - Name of the employee
2nd column - salary rate per hour
3rd column - hours worked
4th column - gross pay (formula = salary rate X hours worked)
5th column - tax deduction
6th column - other deductions
7th column - total deductions (formula = tax deduction + other deduction)
8th column - net pay (formula = gross pay - tax - total deductions)

At the last row you can include a total for Gross salary paid, total Tax collected etc.

Once you have setup this spread sheet make a copy of it and save it as a template.
You can then copy this template for each new financial year so you do not have to create a new one each year, you only need to make minor changes for new employees, rates of pay etc.

Another way to make a salary program is to use Access Database. You need more skills to do this, but it can provide greater reporting capabilities.

How to sende information from a sheet to another?


You can link to the original sheet or copy and paste - Linking might be easier as you only have 10. - Can you not use worksheets rather than excel. If you want to make it more autonomous you can index or look up the first sheet so any changes you make will be reflected back in your employee sheets.

Creating vacation accrual spreadsheet


Here is one way to do it:
1. In column A enter the name
2. In column B enter their start date in the format day-month-2008 (31-12-2008 for Dec. 31, 2008); if a day is less than 10, put zero in front (03, 04, etc.)
3. In column C put 31-12-2008 (December 31, 2008, the last day of the year)
4. In column D, put C1-B1 and format as a number with 2 places after the period (10.25 for example) if you want to track partial days, other format for no zeroes after the period (13)
5. In column E, put this formula:
(D2/30)*1.25 (assuming this is line 2)
You can then copy these lines as many times as you need to, total them, etc.

For Current Date - you can use the =Now() function in your cell where you want the date.

For Contract #, I don't know what you're using, but you can link to a database of contract #s (see below), or you can name a range like current contract #, which gets updated by 1 each time you add another contract, which then is automatically posted on your EXCEL

Database is the range of cells that makes up the list or database. A database is a list of related data in which rows of related information are records, and columns of data are fields. The first row of the list contains labels for each column.
Field indicates which column is used in the function. Enter the column label enclosed between double quotation marks, such as "Age" or "Yield," or a number (without quotation marks) that represents the position of the column within the list: 1 for the first column, 2 for the second column, and so on.
Criteria is the range of cells that contains the conditions that you specify. You can use any range for the criteria argument, as long as it includes at least one column label and at least one cell below the column label in which you specify a condition for the column.
