Question about Compaq Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a Compaq F572US Notebook.  It will connect to the wireless router after shutdown, for maybe 2 minutes. It drops off the internet and will not go back until complete shutdown and rebooting.  I had a Netgear router and thought it was it. I bought another router this time a Belkin, but it does the same thing.  Any ideas?

Hopefully you were smarter than me and bought this computer from a retailer. There is a very easy solution to your problem, unfortunately for myself HP will not fix mine that has the same problem. The problems you are dealing with are widespread through this series of laptops. HP is offering Limited Warranty Service Enhancement free of charge. All you have to do is contact them by phone or online and they will send you a box to send in your notebook. Here is the link, it might help you more. Unfortunately HP wont fix mine because I live in Canada and they cant afford to ship it back across to border and they dont stock the replacement motherboards in Canada.

If it is weak move thewireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locatethe wireless router higher up.2. Have you secured yourwireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change thedefault password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID,and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC addressfiltering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s toconnect to your wireless router.3. You could be gettinginterference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers andcomputers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, betterstill connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted PowerSupply). 4. Check the channels ofthe wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcastchannel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currentlyused but has the weakest signal strength. I have an hp compaq and it connects everywhere except my house?

To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

HP G60-230US drops Wireless Connection

I would first try updating the drivers on your HP. Here is a link to the most recent drivers from HP.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=3860153&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us
Select your OS to continue, then under network, select your wireless device. Download and install the new driver. You also might check your router for firmware updates. These can usually be found by the same method of going to the manufactures web site and downloading the appropriate firmware update for you router.

If all this fails you might change the channel on the router. Channel 1 is normally good.

I hope this helps you out.

Try these steps in order

1) UNPLUG THE LAPTOP
2) REMOVE THE BATTERY
3) HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO 2 MINUTES
4) THEN PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN
5) START IT UP.

After you get it started you will most Likely have to reinstalled windows.
