Question about Audiovox VE1020 10.2 in. TV/DVD Combo

Is Audiovox VE1020 HDTV compliant?

I'm thinking of purchasing an Audiovox VE1020 for kitchen use but I don't have access to cable in that room. I'll need to hook up to an external antenna. However, when everything goes digital I don't want to have to buy another converter, so my question is: Is the VE1020 digital-compatible without a converter?

Thanks

Well, everything went digital not too long ago... Like 36 hours ago here in Fresno, CA. My Father has a Audiovox VE1020 in the kitchen and has had it for many, many, years. It's a great little system and I think well worth the money and convenience. He installed it before flat screen in every room were cool and so far has looked cutting edge. You don

You will need access to cable. Not that big a deal to run. Mine worked fine on the Comcast cable up to about channel 126 with no adapter. About 6 months ago I lost everything except channels 2-13 I think it was. DVD would not work. Would not auto program nor could I get a menu or set up. TV repair gave me little hope as parts are hard to come by. Was going to replace it but there is not much out there. The few that are, are expensive and not very attractive.

I got the Free Digital Transport Adapters (DTA) from Comcast. With these you set TV to channel 3 or 4 and select channels through the DTA. Now can select up through 290+ but don't get the premium channels of course. Picture is great. Saved having to trash the unit.
One problem is I have yet to find the proper code for the Comcast remote. Still need that but TV works fine.

Audiovox VE1020 is not a digital set. To see digital broadcast you will need another digital reciever or a long lead to connect to your existing one.
This set does not have very good reviews either.

Hope that helps!

I have sound, but no picture on any channel. unplugged for 20 mins, replugged - nothingl...any ideas?

You have a faulty backlight which may be due to bad capacitors or a faulty inverter. This should be repairable by a TV repair shop.

Can only receive cable channels 2 through 13;

Turn the unit off, push the setup button 3 times. Press the seek left/right to switch between cable / antenna tuner modes. When cable is selected, press the channel up/down to switch between cable modes. When the unit turns back on, it will rescan for channels.

AudioVox VE 1020 BAD DISK

I was able to find a junk unit (screen no good) on eBay -- swaped out the dvd player - everything has worked fine since (except 6 months later I had to swap out the audio card from the same junk unit - and now all OK ever since.)

No cable signal

somewhere in the tv's menu (or a button on the tv or remote) there should be a way to change the tuner setting from antenna to cable. you may have to make the tv run through autotune. a switch or button may be on the back of the set, close to the
cable connector.

Check the screen position switch, they sometimes get fouled especially if installed in a kitchen.

AUDIOVOX VE1020 has audio, but no video

Ok, here is a bizarro solution that just worked for me. It is a solution to the problem, not a technical fix.
1 Turn unit on
2 Using remote control unit press "DVD" button, upper left.
(When I did this the Audiovox screen appeared)
3 Then using remote control unit press "TV" button, upper left next to DVD button.
(For my unit, this gave me a TV picture)

Strange, huh?
