Hi,
I have purchased a Maxtor Basics external portable hard drive (80 GB) today. However, I cannot see the HD getting connected to my laptop.I have connected both the connectors to my laptop for power and data as instructed. I am having a Compaq presario V2000 laptop with Windows XP.
Kindly help.

- Hi,I have purchased a Maxtor external portable hard drive (320 GB). The lap top and desk top say " no preview" although "My computer" recognizes it. I have a Dell Inspiron 710m laptop with Windows XP and a Dell Desktop with Windows xp. For a while the desk top showed documents and photos were present in the Maxtor with the ACD program, but I couldn't open any documents. I unsintalled the ACD, now the computer reports "no previews".

I have a Western digital model wd2500b007-rnn
and I cannot get either my PC or my laptop to recognize the drive. I isolated the drive to another computer with the same error. It says USB device not reognized. I also tried a different port. I have not tried different cables. Can I retrieve the old data on the drive?
Did you find a resolution for this? I am having the same problem. None of my PCs can recognize the drive. Formatting seems to be the only choice but I need to recover my old data first.

I've got Maxtor Basic Portable USB 160 GB, it is recognised by my laptop, but not by my desktop PC, it does not see enything if i connect it, while USB-stick is for him no problem...
do You have any solution for it? (already formated)

I have a Maxtor Basics External Portable Hard Drive. I have connected the Power+Data and Power USB cables in the order instructed and then the remaining USB connectror to the external Hard Drive. I get the Wizard for installation but it cannit find a driver.

intermittent detection of portable 89 gb maxtor hard drive. works sometimes if I plug it in and re-boot. so much hassle for a recommended device. even bought PCA USB card with 4 ports. ready to junk it

Maxtor Basics 500GB is not recognized correctly after pc is bootted. Instead it is shown as unformatted 137GB drive until power cable is removed/reconnected.
No info is in Seagate/maxtor pages ie. no firmware update has not found. Don't by one!
