The higher the number the stronger the signal.

There are many Radio Frequency bands copy , highway speed monitors, warning signs , garage door openers and other commercial establishments like shops and convenience stores use.

So if you are in vicinity of a Gas station or in residence neighbourhood you might see X and the numbers 1-9 show up.

This means X band frequency and 1-9 is the signal intensity and 9 being the closest to the source and strongest signal. So sometimes cops in residence and also in highways use X bands .

Otherwise COPS mostly use KA band, and KU bands to detect. The chirp tone is definitely louder and 1-9 means you are getting closer to the radar. Also highway signs use KA or Ku bands to send out alerts so that you can get alerted about construction , lane shift , road hazards etc.

Then there is a LASER. If your car does not have LASER detector built in, Better get one.

So good luck , dont speed and be a safe defensive driver.

Who makes the radar detector? If its some cheap brand that its the signal strength. If its a Valentine 1 than the number is a bogey counter so it tells you how many cops are using Ka band.

What does K1 mean?

The letters X, K, and Ka designate radar frequency bands used by radar based speed monitors. The letters correspond to designations given by Federal Communication Comission (FCC) frequency bands reserved for speed monitor equipment.
  • X band - 10.525 GHz
  • K band - 24.150 GHz
  • Ka band - 33.4 ... 36 GHz
The number (range is 1 ... 5) is the radar signal strength, where 1 indicates weakest signal (you are still at some distance, or maybe false alarm) while at 5 you should be able to see the white in the eye of the cop holding the radar gun.

The letter V indicates the detection of a "Detector Detector". Devices like the Cobra are illegal in some countries and police has counter-measures available to detect some radar detectors. The maker of the Cobra states, their products go unnoticed but that won't help you if highway patrol sees the thing sticking on your windshield.

The letter S indicates hazard warnings (like train crossings).

Finally, L indicates detection of a LASER based velocity detector.

Dont know waht codes mean

By Codes do you mean the X, K and Ka signals that the unit is reporting? If so, those are the 3 bands used for police radar. X is the oldest and not used very much. K is also an older band. Ka however is the newer band and the most used for speed tracking.

Need help

The display just shows you the different types of radar bands it is detecting. For example, the is an X band, a K band, a KA band and so forth. All it is, is a different frequency of radar being used.

Found Whistler Spirit Triband radar detector in my basement. I drove with it and it seems to work; it beeps near radar police and randomly displays a P or C or H or 1 or 7. What do all those things mean?

That model only picks up X , K and the photo radar portion of Ka band, It doens't pick up the full Ka radar guns out there plus it doesn't pick up laser.

H= Highway mode
C= City mode
P= Pulse or instant-on type radar.
The numbers indicate signal strength - higher the number the stronger the signal.

Radar detector codes

When any detector "detects" radar, it will produce some form of Audiable sound. If someone is speeding, they need to slow down IMMEDIATELY if they want to avoid a ticket. It doesnt really matter if the radar gun is x, k, ka, ku, etc. You will probably get a ticket if you dont slow down.

Most dectectors will have indicators lights or displays that indicate the x, k, ka, etc., radar signals are actually being detected. This can provide SOME useful information. THe letters simply designate BANDS of frequencies that are used to send the radar beams. It is similar to changing the channel on a radio - k and ka bands use HIGHER frequencies for their radar signals.

X band is the oldest radar band and it is used for police radars AND door openers at supermarkets and other locations. If you drive by a supermarket, your radar detector is likely to go off and it is almost certainly going to be X band. CHeck it out next time you drive by a supermarket with an automatic door opener.

Since the police and the radar companies like to play cat and mouse, newer radar bands have been invented that OBSOLETE the older radar detectors. When the K bands showed up in the police radar guns, the radar detector folks had to have a new product offering that would detect X band and K band. And the race continues to go on even today and now, there are LASER police speed detectors and the new "RADAR" detectors now need LASER detectors as well. If you want to know the exact frequencies of these "bands" (K, Ka, etc), let me know and I will send them to you. But they are operating in the tens of GigaHertz regions.

"K" IS LOCAL POLICE BAND, "KA" IS STATE TROOPER, AND "X" IS SILENT ELECTRONIC ALARM SYSTEMS. HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT WHAT "VA-2 ALERT" IS YET.

Radar codes

VG-2 is a technology that police use to detect radar detectors. Detectors with this feature will detect when VG-2 is in use, and alert you to its presence.

AND

the x,k,ka codes you see flashing are......

X, K, and Ka Superwide are the radar bands that are used by police radar guns. X band was the first band used for by radar guns, but is now the least used. All radar detectors that we carry detect all 3 of these bands.

LASER DETECTOR WITH DIGVIEW DATA DISPLAY
& VOICE ALERT

This is what we can find out about it.
DETECTS 5 RADAR SIGNALS: XBAND, KBAND, KA SUPERWIDE, VG-2 RADAR DETECTOR-DETECTOR, SPECTRE 1 RADAR DETECTOR-DETECTOR

DETECTS 4 LASER SIGNALS: LTI 20-20 LASER, ULTRA LYTE LASER, PROLASER, PROLASER III

2 SAFETY SYSTEMS: SAFTETY ALERT & STROBE ALERTS DIGVIEW DATA DISPLAY & VOICE ALERTS

I again assume the above model number......
Hope this helped some...

Signals

When "X" lights up, this means that your RD is either detecting X band police radar or that it is detecting an X band microwave automatic door opener.

When "K" lights up, this means the same as above except that the radar signal is a K band radar signal.

When "Ka" lights up, then this means that your RD is detecting police Ka band radar since no automatic door openers operate on Ka band.

When "VG-2" lights up, this is supposed to mean that your RD is detecting a VG-2 radar detector detector (RDD). Police use RDDs such as the VG2 and the Spectre to indicate that a motorist is using a radar detector.
