Archos 604 (not WiFi) connection to TV without the DVR station

Can I display the hard drive on TV using the AV (headphones) jack, and if so where do I find a cable?

Thanks, but the Manual v2 p3 shows

"On the Right Side: AV Out Jack"

Video: plug in an Archos AV cable to connect to your TV, hi fi etc"

The cable in question is an ordinary 3.5mm jack to three RCA plugs (red 7 white for audio and yellow for composite video)

I have tried to use this but the video is wavy and not viewable.

Does anyone have any suggestions? The 604 is set to 'composite'

    Thanks everyone for your input.

Generic AV plugs/cables do not usually work satisfactorily, but the Archos one is fine.

Use the Archos cable, not a generic one.

HI, bought the following off ebay and they worked just fine. I to thought that the socket on the right side was audio only. Can't get a picture via my DVR (may be a fault) however this item works great.

I wonder if you need a genuine Archos AV cable. I have a generic AV cable that works for my ipod but it doesn't work for my archos 604 player. I get the wavy lines as well.

Thank you, sorry for the delay in replying!
I have tried agian and find that if I pull the jack plug out a bit that it does work OK. Of course it doesn't stay in place so cuts off again. I am wondering if there is something wrong with the socket or plug since doesn't register properly. Any suggestions.

No you can't. You need the "DVR Station for Generation 4 portable video & ARCHOS 705" to show stuff on a TV.I'm waiting on mine arriving but

Your are correct, I thought it was just a headphone socket.
I tried mine and the picture is clear, mine is set to.

    TV Standard: PAL (EUROPE)
    EXTERNAL Display; Composite

I have changed the settings and the picture is still good, have you tried it in another TV or using an AV adepter which you plug the thre cables into and then plug it into the TV.
Is it the proper cable with three black stripes in the plug of the jack.
It sounds like you might be getting interference some how.

Could be the bit you plug into on your 604 is bad, maybe slight damage from headphone use.

Get the archos DVR station, great picture on a TV, you can connect VCR, DVD, SAT, Cable and Freeview box to it.
You 604 has a timer function which allows you to set it to record at different times and dates when used with the station or DVR travel adapter..
Mine is connected to a sky sat box and tapes off it great.
You can also set it to change channels on what it's connected to, I know this work with my sky box.

Having problems gettin sky channels through archos i get to setting infrared settings and can not get code.dont know wether to connect dvr t the tv or the sky box

Remove the DVR station from the box, and attach the DVR adapter plate (found in the
DEVICE box); it is correctly attached when it clicks on.
-Take the Black Audio/video Marked "output" cable, and insert the connections into the corresponding coloured sockets, yellow>yellow, green> green etc. Make sure they are
inserted into the TOP row on the back of the DVR Station "Marked Out". The remaining
black connector should be plugged into the SW socket, which can be found underneath
the orange socket on the back of the DVR station. (If after setting up your ARCHOS the
picture is very green remove the black cable from the SW socket)
-Plug the SCART connector into the SCART socket on your TV set. These are usually
marked AV1, AV2, or Ext 1, Ext 2, L1, L2, Line in 1, Line in 2, Aux 1, Aux 2, make sure you
select the corresponding channel above (ie AV1 AV2 etc) on your TV set when you turn on
the TV.
-Attach the UK plug adapter to the Mains charger, and plug the charger into the DC-In
socket on the back right of the DVR station. Turn the mains on at the socket.
-Insert the powered off ARCHOS unit onto the DVR station, the unit will now power on,
and ask if you want to 'Switch to TV out', select 'Okay'. The 'TV output configuration' set
up will load up. Select 'Okay'.
-TV connection: When your DEVICE is connected to the optional DVR Station you need to
select the type of video output (Composite, S-video, component, RGB, HDMI etc), based
on how you have connected the DVR Station to your TV and what possibilities your TV will
allow. For the cables supplied and the instructions aboce you will need to select either
RGB or Composite. Use the arrows to go through the options and select either RGB or
Composite.
-TV Standard: this should be set to PAL (Europe). Select 'Next'.
-Now you need to test the settings, select 'Okay', the ARCHOS home screen should now
be visible on your TV set. If you have nothing showing on your TV, scroll through the
AV/Ext channels, the channel will correspond to the AV/Ext socket you connected the
cable to on your TV set. Use the ARCHOS remote to select 'Okay'; you have now set up
the output connection settings for your DVR station.
-You may need to adjust your output from the ARCHOS to match your TV, from the "TV
Format" options. Use the arrows on the ARCHOS remote to select the format of your TV
screen, so the ARCHOS unit outputs the correct picture size (ie 4:3 / 16:9 etc). Use the
arrows on the remote to select 'Next'.

Lines across tv when using archos with dvr station, fine when not using on tv

SOunds like a problem with the connection between the dvr station and the tv. Ensure all connections are insered fully and dust free. Also ensure that you have set the output signal to PAL if using in Europe - do this via the setup menu

Record xbox to archos 604

The dvr station must sit in the middle of the signal transfer from the box to the tv, so connect the Xbox to the dvr station and then connect the dvr station to the tv. You will have to enaure that the DVR station is always powered on so that the signal will pass through it. to record simply select the record option on the 604

My archos 604 won't play on my television.

Hi,when you connect it to TV,I believe you switch to AV mode on TV to allow signal to be shown on TV,do you ??.
If you did it but no video ,than make sure your AV cable should go all the way down on the plug on Archos.it is a fancy plug sometimes stays out half way

Archos 604(Gen 4), Remote(Archos DVR Station Gen 5) Work or not?

If you mean will the Gen 5 DVR Station Remote work with a Gen 4 DVR Station, I believe it will for at least the basic player controls on your 604 (except for the alpha keyoard entry because the Gen 4 players did not have this feature enabled).

If you mean, will the Gen 5 DVR Station Remote control your Archos 604 directly (without a dvr dock), the answer is no, you must have a DVR Station for the remote to work on any Archos player.

Hope this helps.

Archos 604wifi

Use Windows media center as a go between if you have the capability. I would not expect that much functionality from the Archos. The extra step will save time in the long run. There is a usb port on the DVR station. Haven't really tried to utilize it, yet. It does recognize a thumb drive when plugged in. I just wouldn't expect you will get the same ease of operation as using media ctr.

Archos hard drive

The repair function only works on the internal hard drive and there is no other need to use it...external hard drives generally only connect through the archos dvr station which is sold seperately. You can buy one at archos website or circuit city among others...I've been told that it can be done without the dvr station but have found nothing in the archos docs to support this thus far nor have I ever seen it successfully done, in person, without the dvr station.
