Toshiba Satellite L3550-S7812 - Following error occurs when the DVD RW is attempting to load: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it. Got the the same error message after the DVD RW driver was installed and system tried to load it. According to Toshiba diagnostic the, DVD RW is a "PIONEER DVD-RW DVRKD08L ATA Device". I went to the Toshiba Tech site to see if I could download a fresh device driver, but could not find it. Please help!

Ok! I'm not an expert, but I took advantage of my Toshiba warranty and got some tech support. Fortunately, I remember what they told me to do and I wish to help. :D I have Windows Vista, so if something isn't quite the same, ask and I can probably clarify it for XP.

We will be editing the registry, so please back up your computer/set a system restore point.

First, make sure all programs and windows are closed, then open the start menu and type into the "command" into the start search field (for xp users, go to run, then type in "cmd") and press enter. This will open up the command prompt window. It's a black window.

Now, in the black box, type in "regedit" and press enter. This will open up the registry editor. We will be deleting two values from the registry in order to make the computer properly detect the DVD drive.

Once you have the registry editor open, you will have to open a series of folders to access the particular registry values that need to be deleted. It will be displayed like this:

Folder>Sub Folder>Sub Sub Folder

Please open the following folders in the registry editor in the following order:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Class

From here, you need to select the folder which is ninth from the top in the Class folder. The name of this folder is {4D36E966-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318

In this folder with an extraordinarily long name of jibberish, you will find two files entitled "LowerFilters" and "UpperFilters," respectively. Click on LowerFilters to select it then either right click and select the delete option or simply press the delete key on your keyboard, then confirm that you would like to delete it. Click UpperFilters to select it then repeat the process followed for LowerFilters.

Lastly, close all windows and restart your computer.

Your DVD-RW drive should work now. To test it, put in any CD/DVD/whatever.

I hope this helps and if it doesn't, then I apologize. I wish I could help more, but I'm just repeating the process Toshiba tech support went over with me.

Have a good one. :)

DRIVER NEEDED: Hitachi hl-dt-st rw/dvd gcc-4241n (Windows XP Home)

DRIVER NEEDED: Hitachi hl-dt-st rw/dvd gcc-4241n (Windows XP) [IDE]

Simple solution:

Situation
There is a yellow exclamation mark for CD/DVD drives in Device Manager. The device status in the properties of the driver might indicate an error code, for example 32, 37, or 39. Or the drive simply does not appear in My Computer or Device Manager.

Solution

To solve the issue, you have to edit the Windows Registry:
Click Start, then Run, type REGEDT32 and click OK.
Locate and then remove the following registry values:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlCl ***{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}LowerFilters

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlCl ***{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}UpperFilters

topic_02125.gif

Close Registry Editor.
Reboot the system for the changes to take effect.

Note: Some programs are unable to detect the CD/DVD drive after these steps. To solve this, simply re-install the program in question, eg: usually your recording software. Also, in few instances the order in which the programs are (re-)installed can make a difference.

No video output from atapi dvd rw after OS reinstall, cd rw ok

>> VGA controller (vga compatible) error in the device manager

Windows has not found a "good" device-driver for the "integrated" video-controller on your motherboard; it is using the "generic" adapter.

So, trying to download the "SIS Mirage Graphics" software is an attempt by Windows to download a "specific" device-driver that matches your video-adapter hardware.

You might try installing an add-in video-card, to see if Windows will install the correct device-driver, and still boot-up correctly.

Otherwise, take the computer to a qualified technician, for trouble-shooting about your boot-up problem.

Matshitu uj-850s driver is not working on my laptop. Itis at a code 10

hi there,
do u mean drive ??? cause this CD-RW/DVD-RW COMBO Drive would not need a driver since windows would install it set of generic drivers for this drive.... but here is a little file that would help u out:-
Download this registry fix for missing/not working CD drives: http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip

How to Fix a Code 10 Error
A Code 10 error is due to:
  • Missing device driver
  • Malfunctioning device driver
  • Incomplete device driver files
If the device due to which the error has occurred contains the value FailReasonString in its hardware key.

then this string is displayed as an error message. Otherwise, the device displays the following error message:
This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 10)

Most of the time, you can resolve this error by updating the device driver for the faulty device. To update the driver, select the System option from the Control Panel. In the System Properties dialog box, select the Hardware tab, and then select the Device Manager button. Scroll through the Device Manager window and identify the faulty hardware device. Right-click on this device and then select the Update Driver command. Next, follow the screen instructions to update the driver of the selected device.
