What causes a Syncmaster 2253LW monitor to start ok and immediately fade.

The monitor may be failing. Here's some tricks I would try...
1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or orange or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your monitor on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.
Good luck.

Does a MAG monitor model 900P have in built speakers?

Yes the Mag 900P has built in speakers. The audio lead for them is attached to the blue VGA connector and has a green tipped plug like a set of desktop speakers.

I have Monitor Proview PL916S 900P It turns on

spc12b, Have you tried the flashlight test yet? How old is this monitor? Your monitor has a 2 types of power supplys in it. A switch-mode-power-supply and an "INVERTER" supply. One or both of them could be having a problem. The inverter needs DC from the smps to change it into AC to light up the cold-cathode-fluorescent-tubes that are hung in back of the lcd panel. Let me know results of flashlight test. After screen goes black, hold light 1-2" from screen at different angles. Let me know if you still can see the win-desktop screen even though it is still dark.. Bye for now. louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @aol.com

Monitor picture fades out.

I thought my problem was originally monitor related. However since I posted, the picture disappeared altogether, and my PC wouldn't even start to bootup. Fearing my mobo may have died I removed the hardware components, cleaned then re-assembled them. After all that, it turned out that my graphics card has a tendency to become slightly unseated. Once I was aware of this problem booting up resumed normally. It seems that the problem of the fading monitor picture seems to still occur, but soon after I use the machine after 'hibernation' state, and even then it doesn't always occur if I do use hibernation. I haven't used hibernation for a little while and so far the problem has not returned

Monitor turns off after 4-5 seconds

hi every one, i hope this helps and am proud to say/or not that i am now using my philips php-19x (aka proview 900w/Mag LT916s Model 900p/ Xerox) and yes turn on the monitor 2 seconds screen goes black and the blue power light stay lit, but if you shine a torch onto the screen you can see the lcd display is working, and if you turn the power off and on the cycle starts again, like most of us we checked the web to no avail, untill yesterday. I have been playing with this monitor for 3 months on and off after a kind fellow gave me this monitor for free on uk freecycle and of course i checked all the caps on the psu/inverter pcb and more components all seemed fine checked the ccfl lamps by taking them out of the lcd panel (15 minutes to dismantle) both lamps where fine not orange, a nice bright light, and knowing that if the monitor started woking ok and the back lights did not fail it would run like this for ever until you turned the monitor off / video blanking so i was convinced that there was no fault with the psu/inverter board, and as i stated i found the solution at last (yeh) and here it is many that's to all on the bad caps forum and of course the main man -----barry wilkins-----

Re: Mag LT916s Model 900p 19" LCD dropping like flies

I have got to the bottom of this ,after I got one of scopes out (PM 97) the output of the TL 494 IC was disappearing .The IC seems to crash easily ,I think the oscillator on pins 5&6 actually stops.
I cleaned the whole board with an aerosol of PCB cleaner and heated up the PCB up with a small craft heat gun to quite hot .
I fitted a 0.01 mfd capacitor across the IC pins 12 to 7 to decouple the VSS supply ,because I felt the cause of the IC stopping could be interference based
The monitor now runs for all day with no sign of the backlights cutting out.
I found out this LCD display was made by proview.

Have you checked your video card or adapter?
Check the settings on the monitor itself.
If you didn't find the problem go into system properties (windows logo + pause)/hardware/device manager. Expand monitor/right click and see if your new monitor is listed. Is there a yellow or red symbol next to it? This would mean a problem, then right click symbol/properties and error will be shown.
Could be a memory issue.
Don't forget to try a "working monitor". This will narrow it down a bit.

The monitor would not turn on. Only the orange LED does.

1. Make sure the monitor cable is fully plugged into the computer. 2. If the new monitor works fine, The connection between the previous monitor and the PC was bad. Reconnect the original monitor to the PC and make sure that the connection is snug. Tighten down the video connectors until they are snug. Try again. good luck..
