Question about TV Receivers & DVRs

1 Answer

DVD-RW Recordables I am trying to record using a DVD-RW disc (from Malaysia) on a New Zealand owned Samsung DVD VR355 recorder. The machine is not recognising the discs from Malaysia, Is there a solution to this? The machine can play multizone movies.

This problem also happens when you try to use vide tapes from other countires inside american vcr players and vice versa. The problem is a format incompatibility. There was several differnt dvd formats when dvds were emerging and in some countries they havent updated to the latest format. My solution would be to get a new dvd recorder or try to change the formats of the files on the disks.

I cannot format either dvd-r or rws with this machine.

try a single disk, but make sure format is not (-r or -rw; but +r or+rw )negative is mostly for computers, and positive is mostly for dvds and such; should find single at walgreens or wal-mart.

Can't record anything....dvr won't recognize blank

Not sure, but could be as simple as switching to a dvd-rw disc. Not all recorders recognize all formats.

"unknown disc, please, check disc again

this happens all the time on my dvd player. im just about ready to throw it out the window. ive only had it awhile.
i called customer service. they said you need a dvd cleaner to clean the lens. I bought one called dvd dr laser lens cleaner. unfortunately, it rejected that disc as well. you could try it i guess, but good luck. tell me what happens. in the meantime, i'm going to put this piece of garbage up on ebay or throw it out my window. total waste of 300 something dollars. buy the warranty! i didn't and im paying through the nose.
i payed $80 for a new laser about 2 years ago, it did JACK. so, dont do that either. sorry to sound so aggravated, but i have been working on this for a few hours now. i opened it up and tried to look at the lens. looks fine. good luck.

Eror code ec - 207

Not sure what the code itself means, but if the disc was recorded on another recorder, and not finalized, it will not play back on any other player but the one it was recorded on.

Dubbing VCR to DVD... it records for 20 seconds then stops

Try a -RW disc. Only the higher priced DVD recorders can use the +RW disc.

CyberHome DVD Recorder - DVR1600 says No disc when there is a disc

Hi! Pick a jhonson's bud -- dip it into the lens cleaner solution -- rub gently on the lens both clockwise and anticlockwsie -- leave it to dry -- cover up -- run the machine.. but be careful -- don't touch the lens with ur finger and dont try to rub roughly -- lens may go forever. still if the problem remains , replace the lens. chhoton
