You can try the following but i cant say it can retrive the data,
enable show hidden files from the control panel and check if the files are present in the cd,
other wise you use nero burning software and in the add list try to add from your cd, if there is any files then you see it,
or download any free data recovery software from majorgeeks.com an retrieve the data

Why does my Notebook indicate the Windows 7 install DVD is blank?

Perhaps because the installation disc is a CD rather than a DVD. Another possibility is that the Notebook drive cannot read the CD correctly.

The Easiest Way to Use DVD Shrink

DVD Shrink is a freeware DVD transcoder program for Microsoft Windows that uses a DVD ripper to back up DVD movies. The final versions are 3.2.0.15 (english) and 3.2.0.16 (german), all other versions like DVD Shrink 2010 are scams. As commercially-released video DVDs are typically dual layer one of DVD Shrink's functions is to process the video into lesser quality and/or discard extra content such as foreign-language soundtracks so as to fit on a single layer (4.7 GB) DVD.

DVD Shrink is freeware, and it is only to be used to create backup copies of DVDs you already own. It is illegal to make copies of rented or borrowed DVDs, or to copy them and sell them for profit. The reason we need DVD Shrink is because a regular DVD movie doesn't fit on the average 4.7gig size DVD disc, we use DVD Shrink to cut the contents down to size as to fit on the disk.

This article will provide you how can you use DVD Shrink to copy DVD movies step by step. All you need is a DVD Shrink software and you will be able to store and duplicate all your DVD discs.
To use DVD Shrink, Things you will need:
* DVD Shrink program
* A DVD movie to backup
* DVD blank disc

Guide: How to Use DVD Shrink 3.2

Step 1. Start the DVD Shrink Program and choose Open Disc from the menu above.

Step 2. A box will appear. Choose which DVD drive your disk is in. Mine is in F: drive. The name of the disk will show up in brackets. In this case it is called NEW.

Step 3. Press OK. It will read the DVD.

Step 4. Shrink DVD size.
1) A breakdown of the movie will be displayed in the right hand column.
2) You cannot fit all this on your blank dvd so now press Re-author.
3) In the right column there will be a heading called Main movie. There will be a file under this heading. Drag this to the left column. The file size is usually more than 4,700mb and has to be compressed.

Step 5. Click on the "Backup" icon. This is where you will choose a folder for your ripped files. Once you make a folder, make sure the box is checked next to "Create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS subfolders" and click "OK".

The movie will now play quickly in the viewing box, and you will see the progression of the rip. Once the rip is complete, the movie can be burned to a DVD-R automatically via DVD Shrink using NERO. Or if you have different DVD-burning software, you can open that manually and burn the ripped files as you normally would.

Here we also recommend you the best DVD Copy software, 1CLICK DVD COPY PRO, which is a fast, easy-to-use, full featured program for copying DVD movies onto DVD discs. Can't do backups because dvd-cd can't find a blank disk. Who can I format?

Drives like some brands/types of DVD, but will never work with some others. Whenever I buy DVDs, I always stick with exactly what worked before with that computer.

Also, if you have accidentally written on the DVDs you could spend days trying to use them to no avail. I always pull the fifth one in the stack, just in case the first few were put back after being accidentally written to.

Look up your DVD in device manager so you know what media it takes. Buy some new (slightly different (brand/type) from the ones you are trying now.

It sounds like you are trying to burn too much data onto the disk. If you want to test this theory, you can burn a small amount of data to a blank CD-R to see if it works. If it does then you do not have a hardware problem. This will be good news.
There are different sizes of CD-R media, 650MB, 700MB and larger sometimes. If you select 700MB and try to burn to a 650MB media disk, the drive will just spit out the blank disk so as not to ruin it for a future burn. Also, if you are going to make a multi-session disk (or you have accidentally selected multi session, then you will automatically waste 22 MB leaving you 650-22 /628 MB, or 700-22 or 668 MB of space to burn your data. Each additional session will also take up 22 MB of space.
There is also a chance that the media you are trying to burn to is not compatible. Some lower end brands do not use enough reflective material for some burners. You can test this theory by trying an alternate brand of media.

Trying to copy some pics onto a cd to get some disc space but my drive wont recognise the cd rw

do you have a cd writer or rom drive is the first thing you have to check, if it's a writer then put the disc in first and it should give you an option to write files to cd accept then follow the the instruction to add your files, assuming your running windows. iif that does'nt work check to see if your discs are + or - it may be your wriiter will only accept one kind

Hi there.
Yes of course you can use that disk to burn to, most recorders these days don't get damaged and can write to just about any disk which is on the market.
The message that comes with the blank disks is just a generic message which covers the disk manufacturer from liability, if the disk is incompatible then the recorder will not write to it, it will not damage the recorder.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
