How to disable touchpad?

I would like to disable my touchpad since I just bought a mouse. I can't find the way to do this. There is no option in the control panel when clicked on the mouse icon. What the heck?

I have an HP Pavilion dv4000 with a touch pad, but do not see any button just above the touch pad. i want to disable it because as i type, my plam brushes the pad and jumps the cursor to a different location. Gets really annoying at times.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any other ideas on how to disable the touchpad?

Hello

Please perform the following steps to disable touchpad

For any touchpad
1. Click Start.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Click Mouse.
3. Click Device Settings tab in the Mouse Properties window.
5. Click the Disable button.
6. Click Apply and then OK.

If the device settings are not there you need to check the a.net in msconfig for alps touchpad file and reinstall the drivers.
If your notebook has Synaptic Touchpad then there will be "synt" instead of "a.net" .

This should resolve the issue.

Thanks
Regards

I have a HP Probook 4421s and my touchpad is locked. How do I unlock it?

Two options

It may be set to automatically turn off if you have a mouse plugged in. Simply unplug the mouse. You may have to restart the computer after you unplug the mouse for the touch pad to turn on.

Option 2. go to the Start > Control panel > mouse
Click the touchpad tab to make adjustments. Make sure the touchpad is not disabled there.
You should also be able to disable the "turn off it mouse detected" feature on this tab.

Please rate me and good luck.

How to enable touch pad operation in ubuntu 10.04

Ubuntu provides configuration of the most common touchpad options in System > Preferences > Mouse, under the Touchpad tab.

Try the touchpad after unchecking the Enable mouse clicks with touchpad check box.

Check operation after Enable horizontal scrolling is checked. This may not have been the default setting.

Disabling Touchpad while Typing

  • Go to System > Preferences > Mouse > Touchpad and uncheck 'Disable touchpad while typing' and 'Enable mouse clicks with touchpad'

Toshiba u505 cursor jumps to other line when typing n

Hi.
Based on the information you have provided, it seems that the issue might be due to the Touchpad "Tapping feature".
This issue usually occurs when the Touchpad Tapping feature is enabled.
You may disable this option by following the steps mentioned below:
1) Click on the "Windows" logo icon. 2) Then, type "mouse" in the search option. 3) Click on the Mouse options which should be mentioned on the search list. 4) Once you have the Mouse options window open, click on the "Device Settings" tab. 5) Then, click on the "Settings" tab. 6) This will open the "Touchpad settings" window. 7) In this window, check for the "Tapping" option. 8) Once you have found that, disable that. 9) By doing this, you will disable the Touchpad tapping feature.
Hope this helps.
Please feel free to contact for further information and assistance.

I can not disable touchpad of INSPIRON 1545 of DELL Computers There is no option for disabling touch pad in the MOUSE option of Control Panel

Go to the Control Panel. Under the 'Hardware and Sound' options, click 'Mouse'immortal4u.png

Since you have a Dell laptop, you'll have a special tab called 'Dell touchpad' in the window that pops up. Click on the touchpad picture in the window.

In the new window that appears, click 'Device Select'
immortal4u_1.png

Click on the 'Disable' radio button to disable the touchpad completely. If you want to disable the touchpad of your Dell laptop only when an external device like a mouse is attached, check the last option that says 'Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present'

immortal4u_2.png

That's it. You've disabled your laptop's touchpad for good. If you don't find an option to manage your touchpad in Mouse settings, you have to install Synaptics drivers from here. Similar options can be found in other laptops as well.

Good luck ! if your problem is solved don't forget to rate

Disable Touchpad Clicking

Hiya, At the bottom right of the screen, by the clock, you should see an icon for the touchpad.....

Hint : Hover the mouse over the icons and wait for the "Pop-Up" Display to see what they do if your not sure.

When you find the one for the touchpad, simply right click it and scroll down to the option that says "Tap To Click" and left click it so that there is NO TICK next to it..........

........ This will DISABLE all tap click options and leave the touchpad as a touchpad and the buttons as buttons...........

Hope This Helps, Kind Regards,

Me :D
