How to Replace the builtin keyboard for the Sony PCV-W600G

How do you replace the builtin keyboard for the Sony PCV-W600G. I bought a new keyboard but it didn't come with istallation instructions. It looks like I have to take apart the monitor to plug in the keyboard cable.

I found several online stores that sell replacement parts. I ordered from Spare Parts Warehouse after shipping it was about $165. Specifically I searched laptop keyboard replacement parts and found these websites. I emailed customer service with my model number and described the part I needed and they replied back with the part number and cost. They weren't the cheapest price, but they responded first. It was not easy to replace. You have to remove the entire back housing to expose the area where the wire plugs in to. At least 2 hours.

Where did you buy the keyboard? I contacted Sony, but they wouldn't sell the keyboard to me. They want me to send them my computer and the y will fix it. Problem is... I am living and working in Japan and the shipping would be ridiculous. (Japan Sony won't fix it, because it is an American model, even though it was built in Japan!)

Can someone tell me where to buy one?

How do I unlock vaio keyboard?

It's likely your number lock is on. Look for the "Num Lck" or similar key on the top right of your keyboard and make sure it's disabled to type correctly.

Keyboard problem

The keyboard is failing or has a bad connection.

If you have the technical know-how you should check the connections inside the laptop. (probably a ribbon cable) If this doesn't help replace the keyboard.

If it's still under warranty or you don't have the know-how take it to a repair shop.

You can use the "USB" connection on your lap top to use just about any keyboard.

Vaio keyboard ?

I just finished working on a pcv-w510g and in my case it seems some liquid was dropped on it, and the chip is messed up. (i saw this when i opened it). you can try to:
Plug in another keyboard and type in the password.  Try to acess the bios and disable stop on keyboard errors. Or open the keyboard and unplug it compleatly if it helps.
Or take out the HDD and put it in an external enclosure or in another pc to get the data off.

Sony Keyboard

there is a panel infront of the screen that comes away with some gentle help with a presission flat screwdriver, this reaveals the keyboard and allows you remove it, it is connected with a ribbon cable, remove this with caution using fingernails cos you can damage it

Keyboard fix

Usually there are 4 to 6 screws under it holding it together. Look under the rubber pads. Remove them. The parts also snap together too.

If you have a bad keyboard there's nothing you can fix except dry it out if you spelled liquid on it.

You can get a surplus one for $5 or a new one for $20.

Do you have the User's Manual? Here is a link to that User Manual, but it looks to be in a proprietary format (.chm) that must be downloaded to the Sony PC in order to view (rather dumb, I think, but that's Sony for you!). http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=PCVW600G I could not find any other information about this unit other than what I found on the Sony website. Good Luck!
