Question about Computers & Internet
Pls verify that you are logged on as Administrator and that no other related software are running such as Ad-Aware or ZoneLabs. It would seem further that you would need to contact AVG / Grisoft and for then to send you a batch file that you need to run before installing AVG 8. The file is named "reset_access.bat". After the bat file, the installation should work. The bat file is supposed to clear up some permissions issue that will allow the installation to proceed.
Alternately, you can Try downloading this files from this link .
Decompress the zipped file (extract) to a folder in your C drive and run reset_access.bat , it should fix the registry problem and allow installation.
Or you can try manually editing your registry by deleting the entry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\AvgDiagFile\DefaultIcon.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
