Trouble with an Amana oven

I have an Amana Model ARGS7650E. The top burners and the broiler all work fine. The oven igniter comes on and heats up, but the gas doesn't come on. Even when holding a cigarette lighter to the burner, it doesn't light.

I replaced the gas valve. While the burner comes on now, it doesn't light fast and we smell gas. Also, it is very slow to heat up. Watching the burner with the cover removed and the door closed, the flame will go from full to very small and back again. Not very fast and mostly the flame will just barely be visible most of the time.

Sounds like a bad valve that needs to be replaced. If that doesn't fix it let me know but 90% of the time this is the problem and the fix.

good luck and let me know if you have any other questions with this

Well, then with the new information, it seems that you have a defective thermocouple. It goes from the ignition point back
to the gas valve itself and looks like a metal piece of wire about the
size of a coat hanger wire. Locate it and remove it. Then take it to
Lowes or any hardware store and get a replacement for around $8 or so.

The ignitor may be too weak to open the gas valve. If you have a volt/ohm meter capable of reading AMPS you can hook up to a ignitor wire and turn the oven ON. If you read less than 3.5 amps replace the ignitor. If 3.5 amps or more are read, replace the gas valve.

No matter that the igniter glows you must measure the current... If the current is less than 3.2 or 3.6 you must change it (this current is for the igniters with rectangular white base). The current to open the valve is the same that passed through the igniter so if it doesn't reach the proper value it will never open (or sometimes open sometimes not).Mine is not opening and the current is 2.9 so I'm going to replace it tomorrow.
