Question about Dell Dimension 8400 PC Desktop

1 Answer

DVD/CD-RW Driver Hi; I desperately need your help! My DVD/CD-RW Driver is missing. I go to My Computer, and all I see is 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) and Local Disk (C:). I inserted a few disks into my CD drive, and they will spin; but nothing will show up on my PC saying that it even recognizes the disk or the driver. I went to Dell and downloaded another driver onto a 3 1/2 Floppy, but the program on it will appear for two seconds, say ""...Checking CD-ROM Drive on Port...", and then disappear. Any help would be amazing!

I see this problem quite often. Microsoft has a guide that will fix the issue.

you may check youe BIOS settings by restarting the pc and repeatedly press F2. Then check your PC or system settings wherein there is a list of peripherals such as Floppy Disk, CD/DVD drive, Network Adapter etc. Those peripherals will tell you if they are enabled or not. use your arrow keys to select and check if the CD/DVD drive is enabled. Then press F10 to exit and hope that CD/DVD would work...

After changing my motherboard, the Dell no longer recognized the CDDVD RW drive. In fact, it now shows up as a floppy disk drive. I flashed the BIOS and that did not help.

4600c not operating system error message bootmanager missing

You might have to go to the BIOS of your computer to ensure your drive is recognised. Once it shows there, make sure you change the Drive as your first boot device.

Open cpu cabinet and Refix RAM some times bootable files not load on ram properly so this error comes.
So refix RAM memory clean dust from circuit and RAM .
Also pull cmos cell from motherbord for 5 minutes so all settings are defaults then check.

When in ''MY COMPUTER'' - CD Drive (E:) was droped into DVD-RW (D:

Try uninstalling the drivers in device manager, shut down, reboot and Windows should find both devices, it might ask for your windows disk to install drivers or search online to install them

Problems with getting bootable disks to be read - Dell/VISTA

Solution:

i) when you start your system press button(F8 or F10 or DEL) so that you can go into BIOS menu now     try explore BIOS menu and see whether

  a) SATA 0 - ST325082045 3.ADG
  b) SATA 1 HL-DT-STDVD +-RW GSA H31

are just visbile(in sense, you can see them in  BIOS writen ), this will make sure system is able to        detect them, we will be assured that your a)HARD DISK b) DVD writer   are working perfectly ......

if so without any hesitation format or reload system with  Windows Vista....

ii) if otherwise any one of them or both are not visible in your BIOS Menu like a)HARD DISK b)DVD        writer

try to open your computer tower and locate cables that are going to ur DVD writer, HARD DISK
and reseat them(just remove the cable and place them again), by this way we are making sure that    no loose connections are existing..............you can even try new cables .......

now restart ur system and go in to BIOS menu and repeat the step (i) ....

if you are enable to see any one or both

      a) SATA 0 - ST325082045 3.ADG ....................HARD DISK
      b) SATA 1 HL-DT-STDVD +-RW GSA H31................DVD WRITER

then you are having problem with either HARD DISK OR DVD WRITER  and you have to buy them .....

 Thanking you

Please insert a disk into drive

You can only copy files to a blank disk by using programs like NERO or by using a re-writeable disk like DVD-RW which you can format and use it like a hard drive. You need also burner not an ordinary DVD or CD player.
