Well i left it pluged into the computer overnight then i woke up and the screen was flashing white i figured that i fried the battery so i replaced it and now it wont work, the battery is charged and when you plug the battery into the connector on the logic board the screen flashes once and it sometimes gets hot what do i need to do to get it back working
Tough call on this one as it could be that a motherboard component was fried. Have you tried to do a soft reset on the unit by pressing the menu and center buttons at the same time for 5-7 seconds? Believe it or not, sometimes that resolves the issue.
The other option is to get us your unit for our FREE
Diagnostic Testing. We will inspect the unit on our test bench, provide you
with a repair estimate as well as a recycle price in which case we would buy your
broken iPod from you for recycling. Regards, Rick EverGreen Electronics 'Eco-Friendly iPod Service, Sales & Recycling' E-Mail: [email protected] Website: http://www.EverGreenElectronics.com FREE Apple iPod

you are still under warranty...take it to the sony apple store...they will fix it /replace it or tell you there is cost if it not the battery (note do not tell them you charged overnight, and for the future do chage any gadgets more than 3-4 hrs) when you do charge over night you are actually shorten the battery life span or overcharge....so as soon as you come home from school, work, whatever cell/ipod or any other device needs to be charge...charge it now and unplug before you go to bed....
There are two 5th gen iPods, A1136 model is the older 2005 model, not the later 2006 model.
Here is Apples link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#ipodfifth2 which will show the differences, but not by model number. The reason I know this model number is the first 5th gen 2005 is because I have one. Also older 2005 should have '2005' engraved on rear.
If you bought the new 'super bright' lcd for ipods then this is the problem. The new 'super bright' lcds for sale on ebay are only for 6th gen ipods. Buy a 5th gen lcd and all problems will be solved.
You should try using a different USB cable as it's very possible the cable is damaged. If that's not the problem, the logic board is probably defective and you can either replace it if you're comfortable enough opening your iPod or sell the iPod listing the defects on eBay.
