Most of the time, the best thing to do in this case is to buy a new one, they usually come in packs of two and due to the nature of the ink being so small of particles will help ensure the quality of printing that you have. If you need a link from where to purchase this, please let me know the model number of the canon printer in question.

If you need anything else, please let me know

The ink absorber will be towards the bottom of the printer

It's very simple to replace, I would first go and order it and if you still can't figure out how to replace it, just ask once you have the replacement

Canon can replace the ink absorber, need to know the model to see if we can do it ourselfs.

  • Ekse Jun 06, 2008

Open cover (as if replacing ink cartridge).

Locate waste ink pads, they are far right under cartridge slider.

Pry up waste ink pads (inky, might want to wear gloves).

Rinse pads in sink or with alcohol, dry.

Replace pads. Make sure pads are fully seated.

When they have been cleaned you have to reset the counters

Press Menu-Scan-Copy-Scan to enter service menu.

Use arrow keys to scroll to “Service menu counter access”.
    Press OK.

Use arrow keys to scroll to “ABS-M DOT COUNT”
    Press Copy.

Use arrow keys to reset count to zero.
    Press OK.
    Press Stop/Reset.

SOURCE: how to reset waste ink absorber full ip3300 warning?

I have the same problem, but Jet Tec waste inks. When I first replaced black (pgi 5bk)-don't forget to place the small chip from the original cartridge to replacement; it worked fine. But now, it has a lot of problems because this **** printer from canon only want original inks (and the original are tooooooooo expensive). I'll never bought anything else from canon.

This is a very common problems with canon printers. They are set for a certain number of prints and they need the ink absorber serviced. Now along with resetting the printer its best to replace the absorber. Here is link to site that has reset instructions.

Why is print quality poor after inserting new ink. Copies are faint and have lines

the cartridge is clogged with ink that has dried and reduced the slit. you need to replace the cartridge with a new one. it happens usually if you recharge the cartridge 3 or 4 times with compatible ink.

How to clean ink absorber for canon mp237

First of all open the ink cartridge of your printer.
When the ink cartridge would move all the way over, then disconnect the power cord of your printer.
Now pull the frame of rubber from the printer and remove ink pads.
To clean ink pads you may place them in a bowl having warm water and start rubbing and squeezing them to clean it from ink.
After removal of ink, keep the pads separate for dry.
When the pads get dry completely, place them back in rubber frame.
Reinstall the rubber frame in your printer.

Printer won't recognize cartridge

I had the same problem. I'm not sure but I think I replaced the cartridges when the printer was on because I turned the printer off and removed one of the cartridges. When I turned the printer back on it recognized that cartridge but not the others. I turned the printer off again, rmoved all cartiridges and put them back in when the printer was still off. When I turned the printer on again I had no problems. So...try turning off the printer, rmove all cartridges, then put them back in and restart printer. Hope this works for you .
