Dvd PLAYER My DVD quit playing It doesn't recognize the drive> What do I do?

    Use control panel - add/remove programs for the dvd player. Then use control panel - system - hardware - devices and uninstall the dvd player.Let me know what other devices have a red or yellow mark net to them in the device list. power off. ensure the dvd player is properly connected, power cable and ribbon. Boot up and let the system detect the dvd. Load only the driver from the cd for the player. This should fix it.

You can check your DVD drive to see if there is any issue with your DVD drive. You can do this by using some DVD drive testing tools, such as Nero InfoTool and VSO Inspector.

Then, you can also try some other DVD player software tools such as Leawo Blu-ray Player.

Open top Cover of drive, open tray, close tray.

Dvd player will play store bought DVD's but will reject other dvd's saying unknown disc when inserted
some older models wont recognize burnt DVD's
maybe Netflix discs have a macro on that doesn't allow your player to play them.

Hi Elizabeth,

Depending on the model of your IBM PC, it could be that it has a CD drive and not a DVD drive. The Sims 3 game is on a DVD. If this is the case you will have to upgrade your CD player to a DVD player.

To test if your drive is working insert an original music CD into the drive and see if it plays. If it does play you most likely have a CD player and not a DVD player, which means you will have to upgrade to a DVD player/writer drive anyway.
These are relatively inexpensive and retail for approximately $20 to $50.

DVD plays in DVD player is not seen at all by Windows XP
Hi,it's obvious from your problem that the particular disc that cannot be viewed on your computer is of a formatt not supported by the windows XP.some DVDs are of low quality which can be viewed practically on any DVD player but as a result of their low quality and the sensitivity of the Windows they are not recognized by your computer. In as much as other DVDS play on your computer,it means there's no problem with your computer,but an unsupported disc formatt is been trying to be viewed and there's nothing you can do to view a DVD formatt not supported by your computer.please don't be bothered.

Aiwa xd-dv370 doesn´t play lens cleaner disc
The lense of the player may have gone week, since you have been using it for a long time. Replacing lense will be a solution to this.

i would say for some reason your dvd player is not compatible from now on with that brand of blank dvd!


get the firmware update from the brand website all you do is download the file burnit on a cd and put it in the dvd player should fix most and eventual problems

When you say it won?t read are you trying to play commercial DVD movies or read DVD data disks? If you're trying to play movies then you need a couple of things the first being some type of player program. Real player works as does Windows media player but usually DVD drives come with a striped down version of PowerDVD or WinDVD. If you in fact have a player installed and when a DVD is inserted in your drive it doesn't play it may not be configured to automatically play DVDs. Try opening your player program and trying to manually play your DVD. Let us know if you have any success or if you need more assisted. If you do let us know what player program and operating system you have and any error messages that may appear.
